Sen. Bogdanoff's amendment was just adopted. Her amendment got rid of open carry but instead decriminalizes inadvertent exposure.

Open Carry in Florida is dead as we know it.

The NRA gutted their own bill from the very beginning.
Proposing a bill that required a CCW for open carry was amazingly inept.
I guess they needed tha publicity.

Now can we get a Bill that allows CCW during a "state of emergency"?

So that's it. Nails in the coffin and all. What's the chance the pro-Americans take another go at getting passed in the future. Oh and can we come up with a list of the senators that voted against it, just saying maybe campaign to get them voted out.

Very sad. I had high hopes for that bill. HOWever, if it protects me from inadvertant exposure of my concealed handgun, at least all is not lost.

It is a gain, although a very small one. The devil is in the details, though, and I'll be interested to see what courts eventually determine is meant by 'inadvertant'.

Yeah... still can't carry on campus, still can't open carry... but if the wind blows open my shirt or I print I'm not risking a charge anymore... Something is wrong with Florida, but I guess it's better than NJ, NY, CA & etc

Doesn't the Disaster Recovery Act of 2006 take care of that? The State receives federal funds.

(3) The intentional possession in a public place of a firearm by any person, except a duly authorized law enforcement official or person in military service acting in the official performance of her or his duty.

Nothing contained in this chapter shall be construed to authorize the seizure, taking, or confiscation of firearms that are lawfully possessed, unless a person is engaged in a criminal act.

nigmalg, the statute you quoted doesn't contradict itself. It states that it's an offense to intentionally possess a firearm unless it's legally carried (exceptions are outlined in the statute... keep reading).

so the senate passed it (I believe), what's the next step? why has not its companion house bill HB517 moved at all, basically how do things play out from here? Anyone with legislative procedural savvy know?

I also noticed that the bill states CCW holders can now carry in their cars, (doesn't mention anything about being in a case or glove compartment either)...

Anything other than OPEN CARRY is not acceptable. People don't lay down like a bunch of kicked dogs and accept anything less.

Some of the responses such as "at least" is not acceptable. Contact your house members and tell them to vote for HB517 unamended. We still have a chance besides getting Scott to veto the amended bill.

this is just another bill with no teeth. inadvertant/accidental is totally up to the officer on the scene. i expected more from the republican party, gun rights are about the only thing i agree with them on, and then they do this.

sad, but we at least did get the bill giving the preemption statute teeth through this session.
