Black label can = Win 231
White label can = HP-38
Both one pound cans were filled on March 07, 2016
Both have the same batch number - 2448

The clincher... both have the same defect in the second '0' in the date

I'd say that these two cans of powder absolutely were filled on the same machine in the same factory, and the HP-38 I bought today looks exactly the same as the Win 231 I bought several years ago.

That is surprising to see. Although I know they are exactly the same I never thought I would see the same numbers on both in the store. It just seems like an outside chance of both being shipped to the same place like that. Thanks for the post and pics.

Thanks for posting...although, I knew they were the same...still cool to see it in substantive writing.

I actually had to email them to ask even though everyone told me it was 100%. I figured they would say "they are very similar" or something just to keep from messing up any marketing. But sure enough they replied with "they are 100% the same powder". Pretty cool post though

All the more reason to buy 8lb jugs of HP38 to refill my 1lb can of W231. :) I may be thrifty, but I DO value the cachet of loading up with the horse/rider Winchester logo. YMMV, but mine doesn't. :D

Their 8lb kegs are waaay over sized, I found out you can fit 14.5lbs of HP38 in a hodgdon 8lb keg. There is the original 8lb in there, a couple 1lb cans of W231 and 4 pounds from 1lb cans of HP38. I did test fire some loads over the chrony with each lot of powder before combining and blending well. I didnt see any velocity difference between lots
