First I want to thank all of you for the help you gave me while answering other's post.
My question is if HP-38 and Win 231 are the same powder and you already have a recipe developed for Win231 can that same recipe be used with UP-38?

What is this UP-38? If you mean HP-38 you will get two answers. Some will say no, that if it's a different lot you should rework the load. Others will say, nah, they blend these commercially sold powders for consistency and the two powders are the same so don't worry about it.

I'll refrain from saying what camp I'm in, but I do have few worries in reloading.

It stands for "Unobtainium Powder - 38" that Hodgdon started producing around 2009.

I heard it is very rare and never seen. :D

Seriously, since Winchester load data changed in 2006 to match the Hodgdon load data for HP-38, you should be fine using HP-38 with Hodgdon load data or newer than 2006 Winchester load data.

Prior to 2006, Winchester load data was a bit more conservative than Hodgdon load data so you should be fine using older W231 load data too.

I love these....

The answer is yes/no, pick one and it will be right.

For starting and medium loads, yes.
For maximum loads, no.

My 'wimp' 44 load (240 grain lead over 5.6 grains of either, a standard LP primer in a Mag length case) is a 'who cares what brand it is' load.
My 'top end' 44 load (same everything except the amount of powder that clocks 1175 FPS, no it is not just a little more) is on the edge for either powder and gets a new work up with a change of powder lot in the same brand. But then, other powders will do better with less pressures exhibited :)
