Went to the show at the Hampton Coliseum this morning and found what I was looking for:

Was really kinda looking for the full size but found this pretty little Compact with the Wonder Finish instead. Can't wait to shoot it.

I was thinking the same thing. It's a steel frame, and it certainly isn't light. That should soak up some of the recoil. I'll probly get to try it out on Monday night.

Hey, did the dealer that you got it from have any more? If so who was the dealer. I didn't get over there until late in the afternoon and was only able to give it a cursory once over before it got too late. I hit all the major dealers who were by and large wiped out of things I'm usually interested in. I do have an interest in 10mm, particularly compact models since I already have a Glock 20. I'll be going back Sunday.

He had a NIB Colt Delta Elite 10MM for $1200. wow. But the other Witness's he had were 9MM. Real nice guys, Kevin and John. Offered me a good price for my SA .45 against a Bushmaster M4 ($999). I almost took it, but decided the lower priced Witness was a better route. Especially for my credit card. ;) They were in the center room, next to the tables for "The Armory".

I got there at 9am when they opened and it wasn't really busy until 11. Then the dealers had 5 or 6 purchases backed up that needed police checks so it was taking about half an hour.

AFAIK, this Witness and the Delta were the only 10MM in the building. Except maybe for Glocks, which I have no interest in. And I didn't look at the Kimbers cause they're out of my price range right now, so there could have been one of those.

I didn't see a Dan Wesson 1911 in the building either. Kevin said the prices from the factory have gone way up.

I racked the slide on a Llama MiniMax and it felt like scraping a piece of metal over some coarse gravel. uggh.

I know him. I actually paused at the Delta, but it's a little rich for me (a few months ago a dealer friend I know offered me a Delta Gold Cup for $800 - I'm still kicking myself for passing that one). He has 3 beautiful unfired S&W model 10s with tapered barrels - didn't really appeal to me (except the gorgeous high luster blue finish), but my dad just about went nuts. He also had 3 tight S&W 64s with round butts and 3 inch barrels - not anything extraordinary finishwise, but they've probably been fired only a few hundred rounds. This guy gets lots of interesting stuff and his prices are very reasonable.

One of the most interesting pieces he had was a Colt King Cobra, with a 3" barrel and fixed sites. Left the factory that way, destined for the RCMP. he was asking $550 for it. Not a bad price at all.

You will like the Witness compact 10MM, it is one of my favorite handguns, and will be my main winter carry gun with a HBE IWB holster.... check with DoubleTap and order the 22 LB recoil spring Mike is selling for the compact, it will help when you shoot full power loads.....

I have the Witness 10mm Wonder Finish in the full size. I like the ergonomics of the gun. I had several issues with mine that have taken quite a while to work out, mine is an ok shooter now. Recoil is a non issue with the witness, my P-3AT in .380 has more felt recoil. These are big, heavy guns suitable for carry only in a suitable holster and belt. Fortunately, I reload for the 10mm, and have been able to shoot it a lot. I bet you will enjoy shooting the 10!

Saw that one too. He had a nice S&W 28 that looked new but had Pachmyer grips :barf:

I actually bought a Glock 37 from him today. Nobody at the show had ammo, though. Oh well, I know my regular shop has the ammo. He's an all-around good guy to deal with.
