Fox supports self defense?

I found this on another group. Anyone else see the episode ?

Did anyone see the completely pro-self defense skit on Mad TV on
Saturday?

It was really amazing.

A middle aged lady was telling her well to do friends how she took some
self defense classes to defend against men who would rape or rob them.

The lady asked her football playing son to act as the attacker and she
tried to do the hand to hand contact moves she learned....

She explained to her friends that if you just nail the guy in the right
place, he'd crumble and leave you alone..... Of course, her huge son had
no problem defending himself and threw her to the couch every time.

She then explained that she learned that a three step kick to the knee,
poke in the eye then flee move would protect you... again her son just
picked her up while she was counting her moves and tossed her to the
couch.


The flustered and embarrassed lady then explained to her friends how
there
was one last fool proof method to ward off an attacker.

She pulled a gun from her purse, her son screamed "a gun?!!? AAAHH!! what
are you doing?!!!" and ran from the room at the mere sight of his mom
threatenting him with it.... (no shots fired)

Her lady friends all nodded and smile with approval...

The end.

It was hilarious and a perfect example of how to communicate our ideas to
the greater community.

Sounds like my mother, but with a gun.

She was given a short self-defense course before she began to work in the looney bin and thought she'd try it on my, then highschool aged, brother. It went just like that, except there were two women and no gun in the end.

Those short self defense classes give a false sense of security. Not necessarily better than nothing.

I heard that (I dont know if this is true, but....) during the theme song and opening of the Simpsons, when Maggie is scanned at the supermarket the little screen which tells the price of the item (Like the ones you see at walmart) flashes 'NRA4LIFE' or something to that effect.

See, I took this class... and learnt that I can use my keys... if I keep them in my hand - like this - see? Scary, huh? Yeah, I'd run too. And then to get a whistle... like this one. I wear in around my neck. And in case I'm threatened I can just blow the whistle and Ninja SWAT guys will all the sudden slide done ropes and rescue me. Yeah, see... it's Orange and says "Safety Whistle" on it. They also taught me to say "No" really firm like... it so cool. I sound like a pro wrestler or something... "NO!" Oh, sorry dear. I didn't mean to startle you.






Oh, man! I got just got a headache thinking like that.

How it would end if this self defense method was put to use...

Those sorts of things slip through now and then. The Simpsons last Halloween episode had a totally pro-gun segment. It wasn't even ironic or a backhanded slap on gun owners. The entire town throws away their firearms, then all of these zombies start terrorizing the town. Someone points out that in their altruism they left themselves defenseless. They reclaim their guns and save the day.

Anybody see it?

See, that gets the lesson out there. But at the same time, it was way too preachy. It was about 10 minutes of nothing funny, which is very bad for a comedy show to endure.

We will succeed only if the message doesn't detract from the entertainment value of the programming.

The Simpsons has poked the gun issue on occasion, as it does all sensitive issues. I think they're generally kind of liberal though.

Both the Simpsons and South Park seem to have sort of a Libertarian bent to them actually.

The off-color and more outrageous humor promotes social liberalisim, but tempered with consequences and personal responsibility.

Not the worst thing in the world, IMO.

I am not sure of the validity of the extrapolation from program skit to Network policy/position. I honestly doubt MAD TV had a pro gun skit for any reason other than humor. If we followed the same logic, Fox also apparently supports incest, cheating spouses, physical violence of the elderly, etc. as those are topics that have been covered in MAD TV skits as well.

Yeah, I doubt it has anything to do with Fox...

I saw that Simpsons to (ok, well I've seen most of them ) and I loved it!!

They made a playground with all the melted down guns... only they were not quite melted down enough, picture a slide with barrels, stocks, and mags poking out of it!!

(even maggie had to give up her pistol!! )

I saw that episode of the Simpsons and thought it was pretty funny. I think that in the last couple of seasons The Simpsons has taken on a more libertarian slant in the show, versus the first few seasons which were more geared toward the left. Just a random guess, but The Simpsons has had a number of writers leave the show and then been replaced. Maybe one of 'ems a libertarian.

Not true. Early on in the history of the show, I had freeze framed the scene and the display did not show 'NRA4LIFE'. IIRC, it was the Troy McClure character who said it was during one of their anniversary episodes. IIRC again, Snopes even said it was not true.

I agree. I also differ from many folks here in that I don't believe there is some secret programming edict in Hollywood wherein the various plots must be slanted to the left. If you lived in Los Angeles or New York and worked in "the biz," as I do, you would quickly come to understand that most programming ends up that way because that's how nearly everyone out here thinks. There simply isn't enough of a variety of opinions to create a variety of viewpoints portrayed on screen.

There is not a liberal conspiracy in the entertainment media.

The funniest thing about that Simpson's episode was how Homer was casually carrying his gun around the house and at one point he shoots the power switch on the TV in order to turn it off.

in that one, lisa gets a basket ball stuck on the roof, to get it down Homer shoots it!! Then asks her (while aiming) do you want me to get the cat down to??

Oh ok...my memory is fuzzy. I just know it was the one where everyone was buying guns and they were starting a gun club or something. Or maybe they were all joining some kind of NRA takeoff. As I said, my memory is fuzzy. It's all funny though!

Anybody here ever see Trigun? It's a Japanese anime.

Well, anyway, one of the few episodes I saw had Vash (good six-shooter guy of the show) traveling to a town to have his gun repaired by a gunsmith. He gets there, finds out the gunsmiths family was killed by a gun he had created, so said gunsmith drowned his sorrows in alcohol. Before that he had been a stand up citizen of the town, giving people guns to defend themselves with, etc. Well, bank robbers come to town, the local police are corrupt or such (don't really remember), and the citizens are waiting for the cops to solve the problem. Cops can't, so it turns out the entire town has CCWs, and they take matters into their own hands, defend themselves, and drive out the bad guys. After much talking and overanalyzing typical of Japanese animes, gunsmith figures out that his job of helping defend the people is important and fixes (and upgrades) Vashes revolver.

Just thought it was cool to see something pro gun.
