I own a Beretta Model 92FS, a Taurus PT92, a Browning commercial FN built High Power, an original CZ75 (bought in W. Germany in the late 1970's), a S&W Model 39-2, and a BUNCH of 1911A1 pistols, all in .45 ACP. I have shot the RIA 1911A1 in 9x19, as well.
I don't care for the safety positioning on the Beretta or the S&W.
My Browning still has the magazine disconnect (collectible), and the trigger is a bit stiff as a result.
The CZ75 is a nice gun. I am put off by the shape and appearance of the controls, though. It is also not quite as accurate as it's fans would have you believe.
The Model 39-2 is a fine feeling handgun. Some models, especially in the early runs, wouldn't feed JHPs of all types, though. It's attracted an almost cult following, driving prices of nice examples up.
I like my Taurus PT92. It's an ancient version, without a decocker, that has had well over 30,000 rounds put through it. The only replacements have been recoil springs, and magazines. Safety location and operation are 1911 like. It has also proven more reliable than my Beretta 92FS (second locking block in under 3000 rounds), and more accurate. The comment about the PT92 using different magazines and holsters than a Beretta 92 struck me as useless. You can't use magazines or holsters for the S&W 39-2 on any other gun in that group, either.
ALL of my military years were with the 1911A1 platform. They simply fit more people, and are usually more accurate because of that. The single action trigger is the easiest to master, as well.
The advice to shoot them, then decide, is the best thing out of this thread.
