If your hand is too small for a double-stack .45, then the logical thing to do is to get a doublestack 40 or 9mm. The great single stack 1911 is popular because it's amazing man-jewelry with a great history, a match trigger, and has many shooting events geared towards it - not because it's the most logical use of space and weight for a combat handgun.
That's why Glock, XD, M&P, FNP, etc don't come in that version. They can't compete with the 1911 in those regards. Even the excellent SIG P220 pales in comparison to the numbers of 1911's. The 1911 has the gun-game market and the aftermarket accessories in place.
But then I don't get why Glock made the single stack .45 GAP pistol.
