I have an old S&W 469 (second generation compact 9mm). Got it in payment for some work I did quite a few years ago when I had an FFL. It was obvious that QC was asleep at the wheel the day this one left the factory. Ugly uneven machining on the slide and frame, but it has been uber reliable. So I have used it for one of my rotation of carry guns for years with little concern for cosmetic wear.
Comes a time when things are slow and you see an opportunity to spread a little loving attention on a faithful servant. I'm going to clean up the contours, make the flats flat, the curves curved, the lines straight, etc. Maybe a few "custom" tweaks. I'm just going to have a little fun with it. Take a break from fitting beavertails, etc. One thing has me a little stumped. The TG on this one is offset to one side. It is .464" wide, but the distance from the side of the TG to the frame flats on each side differs by an average of .030". It is biased to the right as if it were clearance for a left handed shooter (and I am a lefty). Unlike the one time popular modifications, this one is "clearanced" along the entire length of the side. There is still plenty of material on that side to protect the trigger, so no worries there.
So, to my request. Can anyone with a 2nd generation S&W auto measure their TG width and check to see where it is centered on the frame or offset to one side? I want to verify from a couple sources what the nominal width should be before I start re-profiling. Don’t want to end up with a TG too narrow to work with a holster retention device.
