I'm sure where this one will get moved, and it's not really about guns but a funny story none-the-less.

My roomate and I are HUGE Spyderco (knife) fans.

Recently he went to NYC with his girl and she wanted to go to some artsy/fartsy gallery with him. Of course being a guy he was NOT thrilled about this. He noticed a big bruiser of a security guard outside and a sign that said "No Weapons of Any Kind Allowed, You will be frisked".

He just about pooped his pants cuz' he was sporting one of his favorite Spyderco's that day (a numbered one at that for the Spyderco club) and didn't want to have to lose it so.....he took a walk for a block or two to a nearby park where he thought it was relatively quiet/not too many people snooping around. He checked his six, then stuck it under some bench in the thicket of bushes hoping to just return a short time later to get it. HE ASSURES ME HE "REALLY HID IT"...but I dunno :barf: Low and behold *drumroll please*....when he returned only 1/2 hr. later it was GONE. Someone had obviously watched him or been poking around the area. BWWAAAAHAHAHAH BWAAAHAHAHA!!!! I laughed a great deal with that one. Some NYC street bum just got a $150.00 present!!!!:neener:

So were they frisking everyone?

Or just certain people?

I would have screamed discrimination until they let me in. :)

that's dumb, what you need to do is go to the bathroom before you get to the security guard, and crotch the contraband. The knife even has a clip so it won't fall down your pant leg.

There's a moral here somewhere...

BWWAAAAHAHAHAH BWAAAHAHAHA!

That part was kind of creepy though. Makes me think you were jealous of his knife, or his girlfriend, or both...I'm imagining some guy sitting at his computer literally going BWWAAAAHAHAHAH BWAAAHAHAHA!

If he really/ wanted to hokd onto it he should have kiestered it.

but in all seriosuness why couldnt he just give it to the guard and get it back when he left?

I would not have had that problem, because;
1 wife and I hate NYC
2 She is armed better than me, and probably would have read the goon the riot act before leaving.
Thats why we live in VA.

I don't think its funny at all. Seems to me your friend just armed yet another mugger in NYC with a blade that won't break like the cheap knives he is used to. Congratulate your friend on behalf of all the men and women who will most likely getting mugged and/or stabbed.

My DW had to go downtown to the local courthouse a while back, just after they finished a renovation that included installing a metal detector at the door for the first time. She always carries a clip-on folder in her waistband.

She asked the deputy at the door if he'd keep her knife for her. Nope, couldn't do that. He suggested she take it out and hide it in one of the planters out front, if she didn't want to walk all the way back to her car. She went back outside and looked around some, noticing the usual crown of loafers and hangers-on around the courthouse. The knife is just a $20 KaBar Dozier design folder, so she decided to stash it in one of the planters.

When she came back it wasn't exactly where she had left it- as the proverbial absent minded professor type, she made sure to put it where she could find it again. But it was nearby.

Apparently one of the loafers out front was curious, but not larcenous...

I ran across a sign like that once at, of all places, a haunted house/hayride.

Since I had my BM MiniGrip on me and I knew the folks working there weren't going to hold things up by frisking everyone, I took it from my pocket and clipped it to my belt. I put it between my belt and pants so the clip was between the belt and the end of the belt that overlaps it. turned it as horizoantal as I could and it disappeared into the lump of leather, denim and buckle.

Of course they didn't frisk anyone while I was there.

I've had to jam a knife into a shoe before, getting into a concert, just didn't want to walk back to the car. I understood why they'd frisk there, but why no weapons at an art gallery? And why actually enforce it? Lots of places have the arbitrary "no weapons of any kind" sign on all the doors (always made my family laugh), but it's pretty rare to see somewhere that actually cares enough to pay someone to keep weapons out where I live.

Not to mention, that you friend's finger prints are on the knife. Not funny at all IMO.

They've had several cases of people slashing paintings. Insurance requires at least a token attempt to prevent this.

"Fingernails must be trimmed flush with finger! Your fingers will be inspected!"
