I sent my Smith back to the factory to work on a FTF problem. It was in the factory S&W case.

On the bottom of the case (in picture) was a 3" diameter "TAURUS" sticker. That sticker had been on there for at least 2 years and was not meant to embarrass Smith or anyone, but just somewhere to stick one of the factory promotions that are sent out free to customers.
I had a good belly-laugh when the gun was returned to me today sans the sticker. :)
Can't say I blame them! Good work Smith & Wesson, I'DA done the same! :)

total recoil

Let's hope they had a sense of humor about it, at least while they worked on your gun!

Does it work? I just got back from the gun club in Lake City, Michigan where I put 200 rounds thru it
The answer is yes and no.
The original problem was: After a rigorous cleaning the gun would fire about 50 rounds before becoming so dirty that it would fail to fire because of a weak primer hit(50% of the time). Same with Aguila super, Remington gold 100 pack, and Remington Thunderbolt) I sent the gun back in a "it's still dirty" condition.
The shop repair says "polished chamber."
I got 150 rounds thru it before I had a misfire. Then another 25 before it did it again. It works a lot better than before.

I now believe that if this pistol encounters a slightly weak cartridge, it fails to cock the hammer fully, and is probably a slight design problem.
Does anyone else here have a S&W model 22A??????????????? any problems with it?????
:)

Your FTF's with the Remington ammo is probably the ammo and not the gun. I get FTF's with that stuff with all my .22's. Remington, Brownings, Tikka and Sako - it doesn't matter. Sometimes the dud will fire if struck elsewhere on the rim, sometimes not.

Aguila ammo I use for plinking, practice and informal fun. Don't recall any duds with Aguila, though it's possible.
When it comes to serious shooting, competition matches and such, I use RWS, SK, Eley and Lapua. Depending on the match and the gun. Never a dud with any of them.

I own a 22A and it is picky about ammo. It likes most CCI and Aguila ammo as long as it is full power loads. Clean after every 1K or so. Some Federal will work too but itis not consistent. Compare that to my Ruger MK ll's and they will run cases of bricks of anything but the older REM Goldens without cleaning.

I bought one, lightly used, some years ago. The seller was a buddy of mine. He warned me that it would jam alot. Think I paid $150. I did a thorough cleaning on it and shot maybe 150 rounds through it without any problems on a single range trip. I ended up selling it back to him for the same price.
He took it out on his boat and said it wouldnt finish a complete magazine without jamming. He threw it in the Gulf of Mexico.

By contrast, I have a well-worn Model 422, the predecessor to the 22A, which Ive put at least 15K rounds through over the last decade. I can count the number of malfs experienced with that one on the fingers of both hands and have two fingers left over. Ive never even had the slide off- just swabbed out with q-tips and added a couple drops of oil afterwards.
