future weapons bs

and the whole "he's at 500 yards! I can't hit him with my 5.56!" Please! The other guys with the "AK's" can't seem to reach that far either. Then he whips out his new "308 sniper rifle" and blows through both doors (sheetmetal) on the car and hits the target! I could put my S&W 460 Mag at that range and still blow through the doors just fine! Perhaps all the snipers should change over to that!

Future Weapons would be much cooler if they'd let Adam and Jaime do it...

Adam: "Gee, Jaime - can we blow it up?"

Jaime: "Now, now, Adam... We have to wait..."

Firing new .223 "assault weapon" <BANG!>

Adam: "Jaime, that wasn't all that impressive."

Jaime: "I know - And that's why I'm going to trot out my new .577 Tyranosaur - It's the perfect weapon for use by guys with huge 'staches!"

<sound of earth shattering>

Both: <mad giggling noises>

I always thought Futureweapons would be better if they had Mike Rowe from Dirty Jobs. It'd be a much more entertaining show.

I do like the idea of the Mythbusters crew, though.

I call 'range coach' for Kari! ;)

ArmyCop, when you suggested Mike Rowe host futureweapons I laughed out loud. That would make for one awesomely entertaining show, and he'd have another job to add to his 200 something item resume.

Mike Rowe host futureweapons

funny, I just finished watching DJ and now FW is on... Mike Rowe would be far better, even though FW is just advertising work for wannabe .mil weapon manufacturers.

I really like the show because every platform or round that is good on one show is crap on another. For example the MP5 and its 9mm rounds of one show are billed has highly specialized renouned CQB components on one show and later shows talk about how the MP5 just doesn't cut it.

Why is the host, a supposed former sniper, always suprised by accurate guns? Just how many ways can he call a gun accurate (and none are just accurate, but highly, amazingly, super, etc.). Amazing sniper rifles are said to have the 1 MOA precision needed by surgical SWAT and military snipers.

The technology is cool, but the host is, as said above, ANNOYING.

I saw two eps of that show. One was talking (I think) about the 6.5 grendel, and the other was talking about the AA12. When he billed the AA12 as a "brand new design" the BS flag flew, and the channel got changed.

I like the ongoing competition between Weaponology and Future Weapons. I think Weaponology got there first on the "active denial system," but was way behind FW on the Cornershot.

Which, judging from how intense Mack's whisper was, is absolutely über.

Some of these shows are just getting silly. Not just Futureweapons, but I even saw one (I think the show itself was GI Factory) about the Dillon minigun. They were going WAY overboard with secrecy:

"We can't tell you where this place is."
"This is all we're showing you of the owner for secrecy."
"We can't say where these guns are going, but they use phrases like 'downrange' and 'in the sandbox.'"

Oh please. Give me a break. Do a WHO IS search on dillonaero.com and you'll find out not only the address of the factory, but you'll get sat imagery of the place (interesting how one side of the factory is the road, the other is a taxiway to a small airport; that's convenient.

Did you notice that during that episode there was a HUGENORMOUS sign in the background that read "Dillon Precision"?

Uhg. Weaponology is at best no better than FW. Their inaccuracies and hype run neck and neck.

Whenever a "Futureweapons" thread comes up, I'll give a half-hearted defense of "Mac"...

1. He was a SEAL. And I presume a real one. The show's too high profile for him to be a fake, he'd be outed, there'd be a controversy etc. And I know not everybody can be a SEAL, much less make it through BUDS. At my peak, (if I ever had one) I'm pretty much 100% certain I couldn't.

2. A SEAL is going to be a good soldier. Good soldiers follow orders and respect the chain of command in all but the most extraordinary circumstances. Now the writers and producers of Futureweapons are his chain of command. So for most of the over-the-top-ness or inaccuracies, I mostly blame them, not him.

3. Since he's not lying about being a SEAL, I presume he's not lying about being a sniper either. Granted there's editing, he could miss 20 times and they'd only show the hit, but I get the impression he's a good shot. The .408 CheyTac Windrunner segment impressed me the most, even with the spotter and the ballistic computer helping. He'd have to know more than a little about mirage, and hold etc. even with extra misses edited out, if there were any, to have made that shot at umpteen thousand yards or whatever it was is pretty good.

4. Granted, it could have been said for the camera, but when testing the active denial system, the officer in charge of the project mentioned that Mac had withstood the radiation longer than just about anyone else they'd seen.

And yeah, even with all that, I'd LOVE to see Mike Rowe take his place too. :D

i like that show but still that is a little lucky to hit at a couple thousand yards
while im on here have yall ever thought about haveing a program that you could EXTREEMLLY spacificly state something like ten pounds of c4 and make an envierment then see the afects ivv seen it on shows why cant they have a download or something and if there is one PLSPLSPLS post it here and ill use it

Could someone please translate that last thing?

Had 'nother thought...

The kids on Mythbusters are starting to get a little jaded...

And the Designated Range Cop look kinda bored too...

We need to launch an e-mail campaign to get them to kick it up a notch... Maybe get Mac and Mike on for a special episode too...

We just have to come up with something (a) loud, (b) ubertacticool), and (c) dirty.

And I'd love to see Mac's outtakes.

And, assuming he's a real seal, he probably gets to attend reunions. I'm betting he buys a LOT of drinks.

How many variations of You don't want to be shot with this can he come up with?

NEWSFLASH: I don't want to be shot with a pellet gun. Informing me that I would be disappointed if shot with a full-auto 12 gauge shotgun is not necessary.

The worst is "If you have to go up against this one... game over."

:banghead:

I was disappointed that they were trying to shoot match ammunition through a cinder block and expect good results in the recent 6.5 grendel episode...
