I bought one of the Garmin Xero C1 Pro chronographs recently and it arrived two days ago. I took it to the indoor range today for the first time and tried it out.
The shot noise from the other shooters would try to trip it, I could see that it was trying to do something but it didn't see the bullet so it didn't record, but the guy next to me was tripping it and it was reading his shots. Not a big deal because I could delete them. I had prior knowledge of this so I was expecting it.

It takes about a second to read individual shot data. As Walkalong said, it is stupid simple. I really like it.

Well, when I got home and tried to pull my data from it into the app in my phone, it didn't work, than I tried the laptop, No Bueno!
It turns out I have to have my phone on and synced to it before I start shooting. That may be in the directions but I must have missed it.

I called Garmin and asked them why I can't get my shot data out of my C1 Pro into the APP after the fact and they apoligized and said that function doesn't work yet. They know about it and they are working on it.

So I thought I could get that data out of the C1 Pro itself but I couldn't see the individual shots. Garmin said: No you can't see them, only the app can see them after their recorded.
All I could get was the average, lo, high, SD and ES. I thought I should be able to see the individual shots in there for $600.00, so I told him that.

The Garmin tech told me that an update would be coming out in a few days to fix the App so we don't have to be paired with it to get all of our data out of it, when we get home from our session.

So watch your Garmin Express for an update for your C1, if you have one. You will have to plug it in to your computer and start Garmin Xpress to see if it's available yet.
.
He told me it will make the system be able to pull in all the data whether your phone is synced up or not. So you can just go shoot, go home and pull in 100% of your data even if your phone is not paired to it when you shoot.

That will be a much better system.

He told me not to delete the range sessions I already have in there, because when the update is installed in the APP, it will pull in everything that is in there, including the individual shot data.

Just wanted you Garmin Xero C1 Pro users to know.

Thanks for the heads up. The Xero is on the short list... I probably would have bought one at the last gun show, but I didn't see any! I figured it was a work in progress... and your experiences and conversation with Garmin proves this, not necessarily the hardware, but the software... which drives everything.

That might already be fixed. I had mine out this morning while shooting my air rifle, and it automatically ran an update as soon as I turned it on. I was shooting standing with the unit on the table and it wasn't picking up my shots, so I got down and shot a 3 shot string with the recommended offsets (469.7 fps). For some reason the app didn't record anything, I mustn't have been connected.

I just went and connected the app to the unit and this mornings string, along with a rifle session that I shot on Monday without the app connected were all visible.

Hmmm, mine downloaded an update too this morning but it still won't pull data into the App. The Garmin tech said it will be 3-4 days before the update is released.
Other than having to be paired with it before you shoot, it works fantastic.

Thanks for the reminder. I put mine on charge for use tomorrow and did the update thing. It updated from V3.18 to 3.21.
I'm happy Garmin is working with their customers to improve on a good thing.

I thought I should be able to see the individual shots in there for $600.00, so I told him that.
And a built-in microSD card slot would have been nice. That way you’re not reliant on the app. Even Garmin’s $100 GPS for cars supports memory cards. Some of their devices have 2 slots.

I asked the Garmin tech how many sessions it can store. He said 50 sessions with 100 shots each. It has a decent amount of memory, more than I'll use.

That's a lot of memory. I hope that I live long enough to fill it up!

I've just renamed all of my sessions on the app; cartridge_date_bullet. I've entered the powder charge, COL, and headstamp in the notes. I should start to record the temperature in the notes as well. I'm probably going to export the CSV files and store them in a folder in my email account in case my phone dies.

I'm probably overthinking this, but I ever want to look back I'll be able to find what I did. The Excel files will retain the session name that they got in the app.

That is exactly what I was intending to do with mine when I got home. I'll just have to wait now. I save all my data including which press I loaded it on and if I had any problems.
I've modified Walkalong's spread sheet for my needs and I keep my info in there for a permanent record keeping.

The sun is shining this morning so I have to go to the doctor about the arthritis at the base of my thumb in my right hand, but when I get back I will do some air pistol shooting off my back patio at a beer can or something, with the Garmin, with my phone sinc'ed to it so I can see how the software works. Right now I just get a black screen on my phone that says connected but I havent' tried a live session yet.

I've watched the Xero threads but I didn't realize you HAD to use the APP. I've got enough apps and enough things to manage. I was getting the itch to put a Xero on my wish list, but I'll stick with my LabRadar for the time being. Just put in an SD card and go. Pull it out when I get home.

Thanks for the info on the Garmin. It’s a really compact unit. There was a comparison of chronos in the last USPSA magazine, a LabRadar, the garmin and a shoot through. I have a LabRadar, so will continue to use that but like to know what’s out there. There’s also a LabRadar mini coming.

I haven't had that problem at all with mine, when I get home from the range just syncing the chrono to my phone hauls in all the data. I got mine in November.

Also, I never link up my phone and chrono at the range, I only do that when I get home. They have been linked before, but I've never found it necessary to have bluetooth on my phone up and actively connected to the unit.

What app version are you running and what software update is on your Xero C1?

For me under App Info in the app it says

Build Number: 20
Version : 1.0.3

On my Xero C1 the software version is 3.20 and it says up to date (at least last time I synced last Saturday, haven't done it since).

Software is 3.21. The newest out there.
I just bought this one and got it three days ago, but that doesn't mean it's not an earlier unit.

You may have gotten really lucky or I was unlucky in the draw of which I got. I have no worries as to whether Garmin will fix it or not. They are expensive but they always take care of their problems.

Ok, now that's really weird. I just opened my App to see what the build # on my app is and there be data here.

It only took 30 hr. to pull it in. I wonder.... , air pistols out the back yard time. I'll leave the app off and see if it picks the data up when I'm done, or if the 30hr wait is what Garmin is trying to fix.

My app is working now. Just tried it with the app off and again with the app on.
Went out on the back patio and took three quick shots and came back in and started the app and both sets of data are there. Maybe that last update was a fix for it, I don't know how but I'm just glad the app is working.

@Walkalong the app is really cool and all data is on one page on my phone including avg kinetic energy. You should download it , it's free.

There’s also a LabRadar mini coming.
If LabRadar expects to sell any new ones at all, there better be a mini version coming.

I considered buying a LR unit, but the size of it was off-putting. Now that Garmin came out with one barely larger than a deck of cards, I've completely stopped considering the LR.

Why buy something the size of an Old World Family Bible, when I can buy something that does the same job for roughly the same money, and fits in a coat pocket?
