Anyone heard of Gene Morris?? I was down in south Alabama a few weeks ago and stumbled across his museum. He has killed many, many critters with his spear including a 520 pound lion. He killed the lion last year and he was 75 years old when he did it! I have tons of info on him. He`s killed alligators, Impala, Rams of all sorts, hogs, deer of all sorts etc.etc.

So anyone heard of this guy??

have not, but google has.

$275 for a spear? thing better throw itself.

In fact, on his own front page he is photographed with what looks like a CS boar spear.

Personally I find spear hunting to be immensely interesting, and I'd love to try it though I fear I wouldn't have the patience (at that, I could probably sit out in the woods all day, seeing nothing, without a spear and still be $275 ahead, lol)

Is that the museum on the way to Gulf Shores??? I have never been there before, but seen it a many a times. If it is I'm going to stop by there tomorrow.

Yeah its on the way to Gulf Shores. He`s agreat guy. We talked for a few hours. He has been designing spears for years and the newest one is awsome. I`ve been throwing spears since 1982 so I was really interested in what he has done. Stop by and talk to him if you like this sort of thing. He has many, many mounted animals in his museum. Have fun.

I'd have to see the "kill two hogs with two spears at the same time - one thrown with each hand" thing to believe it - sorry. He's either a god among men, of a teller of tall tales.

I've looked at the for sale picture on his site & I can't figure out what the spearhead looks like. Can anyone put a picture or link of what the spear actually looks like?

It is about 18-22 inches long and its made out of folded steel. It has 4 barbes pointing in all four directions. The spear is sharpened by hand with a bastard file when it`s completed. The shaft is made from steel pipe and varies in length according to the height of the tree stand that he uses. He doesnt just throw the thing like a wild indian. He more or less uses the gravity of the drop as he tries to make sure that the animal is directly beneath him. He was in an 8 foot stand when he killed the lion., SPOOKY HUH?

well in that case im going to have to take the same stand as i do on hunting hogs with dogs, THATS CHEATIN'!

not to hijack here but kiltedclaymore you wont think its cheating when you have to grab the hog by its back legs flip it on to the ground hold it down and then stab it in the heart while worrying about getting hooked with some 2" cutters. I want to try spear hunting looks fun.

takes to long and now you have to hold its head down or back also. my buddy like catching them and taking them home live and slitting the throat while they are duct taped up.

You're telling me this guy dropped out of an 8' tree stand and plunged his spear through the back of a lion into it's heart?!?!?!?! If that's true, then he's got the biggest heuvos on the face of the planet. I'm not worthy.....I'm not worthy.

Or maybe he stayed in the tree and plunged the spear in without dropping down - how would one get a lion to hold still directly under a tree you're in, though? Either way, it's a darned impressive feat.

Interesting; thanks for posting his site.
Years back, I read Tigrero the autobiography of "Sasha" Siemel.
He hunted big cats with a spear and I remember the book being well worth reading.
regards,
Greg

NOPE. He tosses the spear straight down if possible. He`s a great guy. I have his dvd and he`s a nut. Every time he makes a kill he yells to the top of his lungs," THE SPEAR CHUNKER STRIKES AGAIN WOOO WAAAA WAAOOO"
It`s very funny to watch. He`s killed 152 large animals with his spear all over the world.

I just know PETA, the Humane Society, ASPCA etc.---have a DEEP love for this guy!
He eats it up. He is a big time activist against all of those guys. The spear leaves outstanding wounds and the animals usually hit the ground instantly. I know this because I`ve watched his dvd. The animals try to get away and as they do, the spear really does a number on them. We`ve killed animals with spears since the beginning of time and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it in my opinion. Its QUICK!

I`ve caught hogs with dogs and I would consider killing a hog once it`s caught very unsportsman like. I dont agree with everything that he does but I dont have to. He does his thing and I do mine. All in all, he`s a great guy. I enjoyed talking with him and I support him in every way.
