he is doing it for his own ego... if he wasn't, he would have just filed papers, instead he made a public threat. I hope they throw the book at him.
:what: No, he is being a public servant like he was elected to do and we need more of them with his backbone. And I hope he rides the bus to the airport. ;)

Who is more threatening; the airport GM who vows to disregard law or the rep who is actually following the letter of the law?

one could make a case that he was trespassing as he was given plenty of warning.

Sorry, folks just can't make up laws because they feel like it. They just think they can. How is going to the airport trespassing?

really so a some one can't stop another person from coming onto thier property? when do you want me to move into your house?

What papers would he file? You mean like legislative papers that the governor signs into law? I bet he never thought of that. Oh wait, he did.

The airport is PUBLIC property. We own it. Which means our elected officials get to pass laws that set the rules.

New rule is: guns are OK.

Airport administrator, paid by "we the people" says he doesn't like it. Tough. We're HIS bosses, not the other way around.

then its simple, fire him. until then, he is in charge. I know, I know, thats alot of work and does not get you relected... its much better to grandstand, you get relected that way.

TAB...

This is a legislator actually doing his job for once, and being more concerned about your rights than you are.

I cannot believe you have the audacity to claim he's just trying to get attention and are siding with those who think gun ownership is nothing more than a privilege.

No TAB, DeCosta is NOT "in charge". He is an employee of the government, nothing more. He is NOT an omnipotent dictator with the airport as his personal property.

I don't see it has he is concerned about ANYONES rights, he is concerned in his own self intrests.

TAB.... sheesh.

You cannot trespass in a PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION area. You can Loiter... but that's different. It's like saying you're trespassing on the sidewalk.

The bill allowed carrying concealed at insecure PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION AREAS... anywhere you don't have to pass through a metal detector / anyplace not prohibited by federal law.

The great thing about Concealed carry is that even places that claim to be "Gun-free zones", if not backed by state/federal law can only ask you to leave (IF IT'S PRIVATELY OWNED [MALLS ETC.]) if they find out you have a gun, but if it's concealed, they won't find out.

Besides, Gun-Free zones are the safest places to be.... ask VA-Tech and the Utah mall people.

What are you not understanding TAB?

This is a GA legislator. He authored a law designed to protect the rights of Georgians to carry on public transportation. He is personally promising to ensure the law is enforced and daring those who have stated they will ignore said law to make good on their threat. He is doing the RIGHT thing.

YOU, on the other hand, are doing the WRONG thing.

This is not a case of differing viewpoints or perspectives. YOU are wrong. HE is right.

WOW.:what:

so in GA to the legislators enforce the laws or make them?

The right thing for him to do is contact the people whos JOB it is to enforce the laws and let them deal with it. Not grandstand to get relected.

It's so cool that he's actually going to stand up and force them to try and arrest him. If we had more people like that, we would have nation-wide concealed carry.

Mr. Bearden should not only go through with it, he should pursue forfeiture of the LEO commission of any officer who attempts to arrest him on the orders of Mr. DeCosta. Who chooses to play the Black and Tan can take the consequences too.

DeCosta doesn't care--he's a leech, playing with house money extorted from tax cows. If he has a LEO commission himself, let him put it on the line. If not, let it be clear the Nuremberg defense doesn't cover abuse under color of authority.

The guy has guts and principles. He's willing to risk his career and jail for our rights.

I wish more politicians were like that. Less self-serving and more people oriented.

Have to respect that.

TAB

It is the job of the the legislature to make law. This is true.

It is the job of the executive branch to enforce the law. This is also true.

SOMEBODY is going to have to force the issue to drive home to idiots like DeCosta that he does NOT make law. SOMEBODY has to get arrested to charge him with violating the law and the rights of individuals.

Now, tell me again what is wrong with the legislator who actually AUTHORED the law putting his own ass on the line and being willing to be the test case?

Good Lord, if you call that grandstanding, there is NO pleasing someone like you.

Do us all a favor - move. Canada still has room.

Art, please forgive anything which borders on rules violation. I simply cannot comprehend the attitude of someone like that.

TAB you're so off base with your comments.

Airports are public property and the state law preempts local laws. Sorry you have a problem with those facts and with him pushing the issue but it's his to push as he wrote the law.

Get over it.:)

Guys, I think TAB might just be playing around here to get a reaction...or he could have bumped his head this morning.

blkbrd666

Those are certainly alternatives to what I was starting to think...

If he's just messing with people's heads though, he's carried the joke a bit too far.

If he bumped his head THAT hard, he shouldn't be able to type.

If he's serious, he needs to keep his opinion to himself, or move someplace more in line with his way of thinking...
