German .308 / 7.62x51 with plate steel jacket?

Anybody have experience with this stuff? What would the relative merits be of a plated steel jacket? I'm not completely clear if it has a copper jacket thats steel plated or a steel jacket that is plated with something else. I would think that steel jacket would be tougher on barrels than a copper jacket? It's '90s production if that matters.

Lots of military ammo has plated mild steel jackets. The steel is soft enough to not harm the barrel and plated only to resist corrosion.

Fackler discovered that the Tombac (mild steel) jacket would produce horrific wounds, IIRC.
