So about 2 weeks ago I purchased a new hard chrome Girsan 1911 .45 from Buds. Picked it up from my FLL feeling satisfied with the fit/finish. This morning I cleaned & lubed with oil then headed out to the range with 100rds of WWB to test her out.

The first 4 8rd magazines shoot flawless and I'm ecstatic. On the 5th mag the 7th round fails to extract. Its just sitting in the chamber fully with the next round jammed. I dropped the mag cleared the gun then reloaded the mag and fired again. First round fired again FTE sitting in the chamber with next round jammed. I cleared the malfunction & field stripped. I wiped it down with a rag & used a brush on the slide/ extractor then I re-oiled. I reassembled loaded up the mag and fired. The 5th round FTE the same way.... I pack up and come home disappointed.

I don't have any skills other than field stripping, cleaning and lubing. Now at this point do I call Bud's or trouble shoot this myself?

A lot of today’s makers install (so called) match grade barrels that by design have tight chambers. If the chambering reamers are a bit worn you get a chamber that’s too tight in the first place and then undersized in addition. After firing enough rounds to leave significant carbon fouling extraction/ejection issues come into play. I suspect that if the chamber is cleaned out with a service size finishing reamer your new pistol will work much better.

You can explore this possibility by using a chamber brush (not a bore brush) to scrub the chamber out after firing one full magazine and thereafter. In ordinary circumstances this is not practical, but it will point you in the direction you need to go if the pistol starts working as it should.

Old fluff, thanks for your reply is actually very logical.

I don't have the greatest eye sight so when I was looking at the extractor it had a half moon curve to it. Looked normal. I zoomed in with my phone & the edges looked jagged. After watching a you tube video I pulled out the firing pin and extractor... Sure enough that sucker is broken.
