Attention deer hunters! If you have harvested your wall hanger and have struggled ever since to drop the hammer on other trophy bucks just because they were smaller than the one you already have on the wall, try handgunning for once. At 42 I have taken whitetails as high as 178 but in the last 5 or so years I was having trouble shooting the animals I was dealt because I had one much bigger and didn't see the point of taking a lesser animal. I usually settled for a nice fat doe and let the younger members of the crew have the good posts in hopes they would get their wall hangers. This year was different the slug gun stayed in the closet and my T/C Encore 45/70 was put to work. The thrill of deer hunting was back! The challenge of a deer with a handgun made this years hunt the best I can recall. The hammer dropped and the deer did too the reluctance to shoot was gone and the quest for the big buck was not even an issue, I could do nothing but laugh every time the 45/70 barked and a deer fell down, my friends were more impressed than if I had taken a huge buck!
