02/28/06 - On February 28, 2006 the City Council of Glendale considered Agenda Item 8.A: Discussion of prohibiting the possession or sale of firearms and ammunition on city property. The council had been sent a letter from NRA's Attorney (440k pdf file), received numerous emails, phone calls and faxes in opposition and heard testimony from NRA Members' Council volunteers. The council subsequently withdrew the proposed ordinance

Following this victory, the following message was distributed via the NRA Members' Councils internal state-wide network...

To: MC Volunteers
From: H. Paul Payne, NRA Liaison to the Executive Vice President
Subject: Re: "...The Party's Over.....In Glendale"

Tony, and all of the rest of you throughout the NRA MC System,

You have done a GREAT job and deserve a "WELL DONE" for your successful efforts!
Once again, you have shown that the NRA is alive-and-well in California! Lots of people talk-the-talk, but this issue in Glendale shows everyone that there is nothing quite as powerful as a coordinated effort using the experienced activists from the NRA's Members' Councils. You guys really walk-the-walk.

Thanks goes to everyone that helped, and especially NRA's fearless CA attorney Chuck Michel, NRA-ILA CA State Liaison (lobbyist) Ed Worley, NRA Members' Council Electronic Communications Coordinator Mike Haas, President of the NRA Members' Council of the San Fernando Valley (acting as the authorized spokesman for the NRA Members' Councils of California, at tonight's meeting) Anthony Canales, and all of you that called, wrote, faxed, emailed, and/or showed-up to voice your opinion in defense of the Second Amendment and NRA's position in this matter.

THANK YOU ALL!!!

You have proven that coordination and teamwork can pevail. And you folks are the team that I want to have on my side when things get tough. :)

Please make sure to pass this message on to your lists so that everyone knows that we appreciate their (and your) efforts.

Paul

this is what I miss about CA!

good job!

I like being able to buy allmost any gun here in Reno but I miss the the comraderie and action that CA has.

It's good news, but it's sad that such an outrageous proposal got so far to begin with.

Hopefully this case will be used as ammunition when the next city with delusions of utopia seeks to trump the constitution.
