Glock 17 vs. Glock 34

Well it has finally happened! After shooting a glock 19c, I am thinking of buying a glock (17C model or a glock 34).

Which do you guys prefer? If you own one of the models mentioned above, can I get some first hand opinions?

I prefer the G19... just curious as to why you would shoot a 19 then look for a 17 when the 19 is the one that hooked you... A Glock is a Glock though your experience with one is gonna be pretty much the same across the board the exception is the grip size and slightly different barrel length. The 19 is easier to conceal and accurate enough to drill a bullseye at 25 yards so I would say stick with the 19 personally... it seems to fit people's hands the best.

After I got my G34 I never seem to shoot my G17. Like those G34 a bunch.

I went with the 34 (and a 26 for carry). It shoots like a dream for me. A buddy of mine who's a Glock fan, however, didn't like it at all. He complained that it was busting his middle knuckle and felt "snappier" than it should. He couldn't put his finger on exactly why, but it wasn't comfortable at all. He's got at least five Glocks and relies on them for self defense.

If I had to guess, it's because the momentum of the longer slide. That's just a guess. It works like a dream for me. If you like the Glocks, go for it. About the only two things you might want to consider (both of which can be changed cheaply) are the lighter "target" trigger that some (including Glock and Mas Ayoob) think is too light for a defensive gun. The other is the extended magazine release which may poke/gouge depending on your grip.

I don't have a CCW (and they're next to impossible to get in MD), and like full size hand guns. I really liked the built in compensator on the "C" model.

If you are not planning on using it for IDPA and are interested in a Glock 34, why not go all the way and get a 17L. My personal favorite glock. If you are going for the longslide, then get THE longslide.

Another vote for the G34. I think it is the best shooter in 9mm that Glock has to offer. And, I would stay away from any of the compensated "C" versions. Frankly, I don't find that it makes enough of a performance difference to create such a compromise.

I'm the same as Runningman. My G17 hasn't been shot since owning the G34.

I bring the G17 out for new shooters since it handles better and isn't so front heavy. Otherwise, I use it as a spare/parts gun.

That C version is more likely to blind you if you ever try to fire it in the dark in a HD situation. I don't think you have the time to let your eyes readjust if you just had to shoot at the guy... I would just go with a normal version I have the G19 without the C and recoil is tame enough to where I fail to see the point in a C and I would imagine the recoil would be even less on the 17 or 34.

I went w/ G19 since the hi-cap mags are not available for mear mortals in my state so the larger grip w/ only 10 rounds mags didn't make much sense -- plus the 19 is very shootable

The mass difference is not as much as one would expect to due to the cutout on top of the slide. In fact, the slide mass is even closer, as most of that 0.88 oz is due to the barrel being longer.

IMO, the G34 would be better for new shooters because of the longer sight radius (though the 17 would be just fine too).

I have a 34, and it is a delight to shoot. I had a 19, and for its size, was a wonderful shooter.

The 17, 19, and 34 are all good choices. If you're leaning more towards shooting rather than carrying, the 17 and 34 would be my first choices.

+1 on skipping the porting. Just makes the darn things louder.

I went w/ a 19 and I'm glad I did -- great size, fantastic accuracy & reliability. I might have gone w/ a 34 for a game gun, duty gun, house gun or as just a fun gun

Unless you're going to carry/conceal it, do yourself a favor and get the 34.

I have the G34, I call it my Carbine.
I bought it for IDPA SSP competition. Since your not concealing it, my thought is bigger is better. I would shoot an AR-15 if it fit in the IDPA box.

Would like a G19 and a G17 myself.
