Planning on purchasing my first handgun, a glock 19, and my friend has suggested that I order them with the night sights.

I know you can get night sights from glock or trijicon, I was curious what the difference is, and what you all recommend and for what reason.

Please post pictures if you have so that I can see the difference.

Thanks

I have always had a preference towards the Trijicons -- last a good long time, sight picture doesn't change and very durable.

OOOPS -- where are my manners?

Welcome to THR! :D

i think the glock factory puts meprolights on them. can someone confirm this? i have mepros on my kahr and glock, and trij on my beretta. like em all the same but my mepro's sight acquisition is a little faster in the day (for me, because of the white outline) and they also glow a litle brighter (barely, but noticeable.) just something i noticed after testing them side by side for a few hours. if you get it straight from glock it will already be put on. if you order them seperate you gotta put them on yourself. glock is probably the easiest pistol to put night sights on because the front just screws in, but i'd still get it done at a smith just to be safe. i don't know if trijicons have contrasting sights but i liked the idea of them so i got mepro front green and rear orange on my glock. i love them but then i found out that the orange and yellows don't last as long as the greens (someone explained to me why but i forgot). can't go wrong with either i guess:) i can't really see anyone strongly discouraging you from just getting it factory from the getgo because it saves so much time and trouble, but maybe some expert will come along and tell you why trijs are so much more superior. in terms or warranties tho, i think trijicon's warranty is better and easier to register. i ordered my mepros after i got my pistol and the warranty registration card was so hard to understand and it seemed like i had to mail stuff to israel. the US PO box address is only for claims, not the initial registration. weird i know. my "advice" would be to just get it with the gun. less trouble = lower blood pressure.

p.s. if it costs WAY more to get the gun with NS already installed from the factory, then maybe you should order them seperate. factor in the cost of putting them on and then see if its worth it.

Ya really need to know where you're aiming when you shoot in the dark.

If you practice a lot, you may be able to hit where that "glow-in-the-dark" sight sets.

Wonder if it will set on the target...

I'd suggest you try hitting the target in midday sun before you worry about what you can hit in the dark.

OTOH, spending money on sights may make you a better shot.

Don't worry about being a good shot. Just get real good night sights.

In all honestly, my first recommendation is to buy grips that improve your "point and shoot" capability.

Grips are a lot more important than sights.

Get one with night sights. if you have to use it to protect yourself, it will probably be at night.

The guy asked about night sights, not a critique of his shooting abilities. Perhaps he is a fantastic shot and has been borrowing his Dad's guns. Perhaps he might have asked about training or asked for critiques of his shooting in another thread. This one asked about night sights.

I like the trijicons as well.

loop the op might have some fun changing grips on a glock. I have night sights on my gun for low light conditions not no light. See i have to walk in the very low light in some very thick woods. If i were ot run into a hog that decided he doesn't want me in the woods then i'll take any advantage i can get. To the op now go with trijicon and welcome to THR.

thanks. I am going to get prices of them with and without night sights....and yes this is for protection, but I do go to the range and practice.

My G35 came with Trijicon night sights:

They're great, but I'm fine with the regular sights since I'm accurate with both types. I highly recommend the Trijicons or any metal front/rear sights. I've dropped my G23 a couple of times that have the original plastic sights...and now they're dented.:fire:

Trijicons

I have Trijicons on all my main carry pieces (G19/1911/Colt Defender/SP 101) and wouldn't have it any other way.

Really like the ones on my G19, had them installed by a gunsmith. There's something comforting about them glowing away in the dark on a table in my bedroom when I'm dropping of the sleep. :D

i suggest that first and foremost you get the glock with factory sights, and then you order a set of xs 24/7 night sights and instal them yourself they are easy as pie take less tha 5 minutes and it has everything that you need to do it. and there happens to be an awesome instructional video by james Yeager on youtube to show you if you need assistance. i have put on countless sets and i am no gunsmith and don't aspire to be and i didn't stay at a holiday inn express last night either!:)

but if you must have three dot sights i am with 10 ring i prefer the trijicons.
