Going rate 1981 S&W 29-2

All M29's came standard with 3T configuration, at least from 1982 back. I concur with your value, I'd say closer to $1300 if 95% or better, and with original GA target stocks. 4" barrel is very desirable.
Huh, sure nuff. Never noticed before. Makes sense, I sure wouldn't want to light off a .44 Mag. with Magnagrips. Lol.

The target models .40 caliber and up came with 3T. M29, M57, M25, I suppose because they were such a handful. I guess the M58, being a budget LE focused gun, didn't get them because of cost. There was a period of time between 1975 and 1980, where the M27-2 was standard 3T.

Not to long ago, I was looking at a Model 29-2, 4" barrel, in nickel that was tagged at $1400.00. I forget the exact figure. Nice gun, that I don't recall anything that really jumped out at me as being a defect. I know it had target stocks, probably target hammer and trigger too, but I can't swear to that. Just a really nice gun. No box or papers.

At the same time, they had a 29-10, 4" barrel, in blue tagged at $999.99, no box or papers. Of course it had "THE LOCK." Big deal. Even after asking about wiggle room, the -10 was still almost $400.00 less. I don't like the lock, but I don't dislike it $400 worth. I got the -10. Plus it was blue.

For me and just speaking for me, I would pay up to $1500 for either the 4 1/2” 29-2 that .357smallbore started this thread about or the 29-2 that Mark Mark posted. They don’t make them like they use to couldn’t be more true in this instance.
I picked up a 27-2 made in 1978 that was unfired for $1000 about 4 years ago and felt like I got a pretty good price.

I would have pick up the 29-2 but the barrel was too long

I love a 6” Smith, perfect proportions and in Blue too! Dang that’s a good price… Online or local?

go ahead and remove them grips! :)
Semi-local. Collector Firearms has a store in both Houston and Austin. This one was in the Houston store and I had them ship it to Austin. It already has a new set of S&W target grips. They came on a 581 I bought so I had an extra pair!

I've got a 6" 29-2 that would take way more than a grand to buy. Condition, condition, condition.

I own and love some smith 29-2s. However ,the other day I looked at a new blue classic 29 and was impressed. It was put together better in some respects than my old ones. Side plates fit perfect, machining excellent, chamber throats usually consistent ant.429, and most important it has the endurance package (smith started in late 1980s). For a shooter, the new one for sure . For nostalgia the old or best ,one of each!
