golden sabers in 45acp....

My best load for the 185gr Golden Sabers is with 10gr of AA#5, OAL of 1.245".
Out of my SA 1911-A1 Mil-Spec, these will shoot 1.5" groups at 15 yds all day long.

http://www.accuratepowder.com/data/...5Cal(11.5mm)/45 ACP page 140 only +P data.pdf for +P, and http://www.accuratepowder.com/data/...l(11.5mm)/45 ACP pages 137 to 139 revised.pdf for standard pressure. Accurate used to list a charge for the 185 GS (as well as 230 gr. GS) and it was identical to the charge for the Hornady 185 listed.

I don't use #5 for this, but I use a very similar powder as far as how it performs in .45 ACP: Ramshot True Blue and I have had very good results loading to 1.230" which will put the top of the GSs driving band flush with casemouth. This is the OACL that Accurate listed when they showed data for the GS.;)

The factory loads I measured were at 1.235 O.A.L. and that feeds very well in my guns. I was shooting the 230 Gr. GS with 8.7 Grs. AA #5. which gave me around 850 FPS which was my target velocity. I have not loaded the 185 Gr. GS. I just bought some True Blue to try. CZ57 keeps bragging on it. I figured it's worth a try. ;)

Reduce the 8.7 Grs 10% to start if you try it. Max Load.

WA: Let us know how it works out. The max charge shown for the Nosler 185 at Ramshot's website is a very accurate load for me with the GS. 9.2 grains of TB, WLP and Win case at 1.230", and I have loaded up to +P for a Ruger P-345.;)

I loaded some Berry's 185 Gr. SWC's and some Berry's 200 Gr. HP's using Competition and shot them last weekend. I was looking for a clean burning accurate target/plinking load. Ramshot does not show data for Competition and the .45 so I was on my own. With the Berry's 185 SWC I got an Avg 955 FPS with an ES of 18 & an SD of 7. Cases were clean, gun was clean, no pressure signs. Not bad. Recoil was noticable, but not bad for the velocity generated. Competition looks like it will give very good velocities with a 185 Gr. bullet in the .45. The 200 Gr. HP gave an Avg. 934 FPS with an ES of 35 and an SD of 11. Again, very clean. but with over pressure signs. Not bad, but there. I used too much powder. Competition shows promise in the .45 though, just need to tweak it and see. Accuracy seemed pretty good in both loads. I did not test it thoroughly though. I have not tied True Blue yet, but would expect it to give top velocities in the .45. I am more interested in moderate velocities for target and plinking though. True Blue should do well in the 9MM & the .40 and I will try those for sure. It's fun to try different powders.

I am not endorsing Competition for use in the .45 ACP. There is no load data for it as far as I know. There is no reason it should not work well, but you are on your own if you try it. :uhoh:

It works better in .40 than anything I've used. Silhouette is a close second. I load it with Nosler 150 gr. JHPs and LaserCast 170 gr. SWCs. But, in .45, it has done very well for me with both the 185 and 230 gr. Golden Saber. GS velocities will run about 40-50 FPS slower with the same charge as a comparable copper jacketed bullet.TB is faster than #5 in .45 ACP.;)
