"Got .22 Long Rifle Ammo ?"

Not passing any judgement but seeing some of the pictures makes me wonder...... I would not buy that much ammo because I would be afraid I would die before I could use it up that being horrendous waste of resources.

Then family can use it.

My .22lr count is in the 5 digits but I would feel better if I had 10x as much.

As it stands I have been a net seller of .22lr over the past year.

Arms, in this case firearms, are of very little use if you cannot use them. As in, firearms are almost useless without ammo. You cannot practice or train yourself or others without ammo. That whole 'buy it cheap and stack it deep' is what I did in the past. Every trip to Walmart, leave with a brick of ammo. Every ammo order, add some .22lr to it. Some day I hope that market returns (affordably!) so I can do it again.

And I agree with your thoughts. I'm not saying I would enjoy paying $50.00 for a box of ammo, but that would at least slow down the people who are buying ammo just to resell it.

Hmmmm........Now I understand the meaning of "Warp Speed."

My problem is life's to short to shoot crap .22 ammo. I've got several cases of ammo I know will shoot good on back order. Otherwise I like to pick a brick and test before I commit to volume. If it shoots over 3/4" - 5 shot groups at 50yds it's not worth my time or money.

People need to stop dealing with the rip off places and start checking on a regular basis at reputable retailers. If my local Gander has the stuff then other Gander Mountains have the stuff. Granted it is a crap shoot but put some effort into looking.
Absolutely correct Reloadron. I posted the Natchezss link to show that it is available (briefly, but it's there). I don't shoot as much 22 as I used to, but I've managed to keep myself supplied this past year by watching Cabela's and using their ship to store. I've also picked up a few boxes of CCI mini mags from Walmart, but that is very rare. Since I reload, it's just easier for me to shoot 38 or 40, since I have all the components in my basement. Right now, I have about 2,000 rounds of 22, so I'm ok for now. If the only way I could shoot my .22's was by paying .15 cents per round, I wouldn't be shooting them. But that's me, YMMV of course.

All depends on what you will be doing with it.

Most of the shooting I'm doing I would be doing wrong if I had anything even approaching that small of a group, because it would mean I was going waaay too slow. And it would probably mean I was cheating and using the bench instead of field positions. (cheating for what I am doing, since what I am doing is not shooting from the bench)

I intend to add that to my repertoire later, probably via a CZ bolt action .22lr and some higher quality ammunition than what I have (best I have is one brick of Wolf M/E).

The more things you do the more well rounded you are the easier it is to do more of what you can do with whatever it is that is currently the most available in the market.

In the meantime I have just sucked it up and switched to black powder cap and balls.
I keep looking at the cap and ball revolvers every time I'm in Cabela's. It's another one of those things I've threatened to do for several years, but haven't yet. This current situation might be just the excuse I could give my wife so I could justify it!

No matter WHAT I'm doing, bench shooting, 4 position indoor, Silouette league or silouette speed shooting, I set the silouette speed shooting round record for last season at our club, 20 targets, 5 each at 4 distances - 25yds to 100yds in 30 seconds...still won't shoot crap ammo. If it doesn't shoot small groups at 50yds it sure won't clean the targets at 100 no matter how fast I shoot.

But, to each their own some people are happy to just hear the bang. It's all good, they can buy the cheap stuff, I'll buy the better and we'll all be happy. :D

I was told today that Sportsman Warehouse had 50,000 rounds of 22LR. I was in this evening, it was all gone. As the manager said, 50K (10 cases) is not that much for a retail store.

The Queen said... Your325 count Federal Auto Match has been going for $99.99 for months now. CCI 100 count boxes 36gr HP ammo was going for $44.99 per 100, well it was the last time it was available. Today it may be $75 or more. Your $40-$50 a brick is now what we call cheap. Its completely crazy. It's been reported that people are seeing 22lr range pickups going for 10 cents a round at gun shows.

That is simply amazing. I refuse to pay centerfire prices for 22LR. $50 is not cheap for promotional ammo. It's pretty depressing actually.

Lots of .22lr shooting to be done well under 100 yards. :)

I bought half a brick of ammo today for 12 cents a round at a LGS. There was some tax of course but nothing like the cost of shipping. I could have bought more I guess. There was no limit. I just hate to pay that kind of price for Blazer. I know how things are and I have been paying it sometimes but mostly I just don't shoot much. I have a good size stash I guess and I have actually increased the size of it over the last year if that tells you anything. What it says is I haven't shot much. I'm getting pretty tired of it too. Maybe I'll start selling guns before people get it in their heads that .22 is never coming back. I think it will but who knows how long it will take. I could buy me a nice rifle for what I have tied up in my rimfire rifles.

Sure is depressing but the Remington 1400 count buckets of 22lr were selling for $245 each plus shipping at BulkAmmo are sold out. Expect to see 22lr to move into the 20-25 cents a round range for non match solid ammo.

I need a .380 auto blowback semi auto rifle to replace .22. I can load that with homecast lead for about 6 cents per.

Heck, I have more $$ tied up in rimfire guns than any other. I could buy 15 or 20 regular rifles for what I have on hand.

Hmmm. I've been getting midrange match ammo at 11-13 cents a round with no problems. ....and no it probably will not run in your AR 22 or Marlin M60.

What do you mean by AR 22?

I have a S&W M&P 15-22, is that the kind or rifle you are referring to? If so, why wouldn't it run mid range match ammo?

My 15-22 and 10/22 run on standard velocity match type ammo just fine. Wolf M/T and M/T (and the SK loads that are the same) are some of their favorites. Much more reliable than high velocity bulk box ammo.

Don't you have friends and family that you would like to leave your ammo and guns to?

Being up in age I no doubt will have ammo on hand when I die. I have already made plans for the ammo (and guns) to go to friends.

Some years ago I had a bumper sticker that I've tried to live by.

"HE WHO DIES WITH THE MOST TOYS WINS". :)

.
500 years from now maybe it will be the Chinese will find mausoleums and graves here with the occupants buried along with 200,000 + rds of 22 like the pharaohs in Egypt were buried with treasure they thought they would need in the afterlife

There YOU said it and why I prefer NOT to shoot cheap ammo. Now I have found some 'bulk' that shoots good , just usually not the cheapest stuff.

You are totally free to choose to shoot what you want for the reasons you want.

For me, for some of the shooting I die. less than totally reliable bulk ammo is just fine, and gets me more trigger time and more rounds downrange than if I had to pay a premium for better ammo all the time.

Federal Bulk can be had for $0.045 per round when you luck out and find it in stock, though. That's a lot of shooting for not very much money.

Edit: I don't discriminate. I have uses for all kinds of .22lr ammo. Well, almost. Since I don't have an "accurate" rifle yet I top out at Wolf M/E or Eley Club level of ammo ($80ish per brick), no sense in Center-X or Minus+ or Eley black box match or any of that...maybe next year when I get around to buying a good .22lr bolt rifle for stationary shooting. :)

I don't have as much as M2Carbine but I have been able to shoot at my leisure and share with my brothers without having to buy any since President Obama took office. Last gun show I attended last month had the guys selling bulk ammo for $95, cci 100 ct for $20. I just shook my head and smiled the man selling it simply stated "there is a lot of desperate, but mainly, stupid people that still pay the price".

That's ridiculously high IMO. I won't pay that much for Remington ammo. I just won't. It's the worst ammo I've ever shot for one thing and I've seen it for far less than that price since the shortage began.

BTW one my of Marlin 60's will shoot anything I put in it above 1000 fps. The other one will shoot all but the dirtiest ammo (Remington). So I don't know where this stuff comes from that certain ammo won't run a 60. I shoot subsonic ammo in it all the time.
