i was at the range shooting today with my taurus 1911 when all of a sudden it pop instead of bang. i went through all clearing proceedure and made sure that the round did indeed clear the barrel, it did. i think that it was the round was under powered ( winchester 45 auto, nothing special) due to the fact that the slide didnt cycle all the way through, it got hung up on the ejection step. now is this what you all think or could there be a problem with the hand gun? if it was under powered is there anything specificaly i should inspect on the fire arm?

Sounds like a squib load (under powered). As long as the bullet left the barrel you don't need to do anything. Maybe get better ammo. LOL

it was winchester ammo, just for the range and out of about i dunno how many thousands of rounds it was the first.

It happens rarely, but it happens with all types of ammo. But in the 250K+ rounds I have shot, I have never had one that failed to leave the barrel (knock on wood).

:)

either a squib load or a round contaminated with oil.
you might already know this but any petrolium based oil, solvent or anything else will contaminate the powder and priming compound.
be shure not to let any oil, grease or cleanign solvent get near ammo.

on an unrelated note how does that pt1911 run, any jams or anything, how accurate is it? i was thinking about gettin one...

Good thing you checked to see that it cleared, my son was shooting some cheap Eagle ammo in his Springfield and had squib load that hung the bullett about half way down the barrel. Luckly he didn;t shoot again either.
