Five weeks after I mailed the app, my C&R FFL finally arrived in the mail. I have some questions now...

1. I have heard about using it to haggle at stores and shows. How is this done?

2. Do I need to record C&R guns in my book if I obtain them face-to-face? I.e. don't use the C&R FFL to obtain them.

don't know about the haggling part, but send a copy to Grafs,Midway,Brownells,Aim,SOG,ect. you don't use your license to buy C&R weapons.if you have a license, any and all C&R weapons are logged in and out. any C&R you had before your license, need to be logged out in the "disposition" part of your "bound book" jwr

Just to clarify what jwr747 said, you only need to log previously-owned C&R-eligible firearms as dispositions when you sell them (give them away, etc.). The rule is that if you acquire a C&R-eligible gun while the license is valid, you log it. If you dispose of a C&R-eligible gun while the license is valid, you log it (even if you got it before you got the license and thus it's not logged as an acquisition). Whether you 'use' the license to acquire or dispose of a gun is irrelevant.

I bought a gun from a gun dealer who refused to take my C&R license, so I had to fill out the NCIC paper work. I never logged it in my book because I didn’t use my license. If the dealer didn’t know what they were giving away I would have just left but I did basically steal it from them, so it didnt bother me too much.

Doesn't matter - it's a C&R, you're licensed. You need to log it.

But if I log it in now I will be in violation of the law because it has been more than 7 days from the purchase, so would about 15 other C&R guns that I had before I got my license.

Looks like I am in trouble either way.

Well, crazy, I don't know how they would know the actual date you made the entry, but they'd know for sure if they inspected your book and they weren't there. The C&R eligible guns that you owned before you got your license don't need to be logged, because you were not a C&R when you got them. You would only need to log one of them in if you sold or traded it, so you could then log it out. Simple, huh?

Unlike a dealer FFL, a C&R does not need to retain books after the license expires. For this reason, I know several C&R's that have chosen to let their license expire and then re-apply, rather than renew, because then they can start again with an empty book.
