Just wondering, but has anyone actually had their car broken into because of gun-related stickers?

Probably exactly nobody.

I believe that car burglaries inspired by gun stickers to be the moral equivalent of bad guys who come in shooting 'because they know you're armed.'

You're more likely to be struck by lightning.

Gun owners, IMHO, need to quit hiding "in the closet" and be proud about it.

C'mon out of the closet guys. The air is fine out here. Quit worrying what other people (sheeple) think about you. Their opinion of you isn't going to make your life any better or worse, unless you let it.

John

My plate reads:

GN5LNGR

There was a rash of break-ins at my office complex a couple of weeks ago. My car was untouched. Apparently, the thieves were doing smash and grabs on the cars that had those little direction-finding gadgets in them.

My Alberta plate is GOHUNTN and my buddy's plate is GOFISHN. I guide and he owns a fishing lodge so it kinda makes sense. And both trucks are white Dodge 3/4ton. and no we aren't a couple.........lol

T N T

Although it's not terribly accurate, the shorthand is
c7h5n3o6
for those places with lots of digits available.

Nitroglycerin (c3h5n3o9) isn't any better, nor is caffeine (c8h10n4o2).

Other chem plates
h2so4 = sulfuric acid
hno = nitric acid
hcl = hydrochloric acid
nacl = salt
c2h5oh = ethyl alcohol
no3 = nitrate

I've seen some cute "chem puns" on plates before, but I suddenly can't recall any specifically.

I remember thinking TNT would make a great domain name (it was taken) so I looked up the formula. Too long for a license plate.

Rats.

So if you know offhand if there are any logical reasons presented for denial of such plates, I'd like to know.
Lots of "rules" about what can go on personalized plates here in Cali - and they do make sense.

edit: I went to the DMV site - the rules seem to have changed. Below is what I remembered, not what is...

Cannot be an existing number.
Cannot be mistaken for a non-personalized plate (3 numbers 3 letters, or now 1 number 3 letters 3 numbers)
Can only be 6 characters
If symbol is included can only be 5 characters
Cannot be derogatory or offensive
Cannot contain 69 in any form or combination. That one is funny.

No problems with gun related. You have to tell DMV what the plate is supposed to mean. I was quite clear. They did not mind.

And no, they do not give any reason at all for rejection. They just send a "rejection form letter".

... is mine.

I got sideswiped a couple years ago. One of the attending cops asked me if I played a lot of poker. I didn't get that one. I said "no," he took a sip of coffee, looked at the plate again, then blew part of it out and called his partner over. Worth every penny for the tags. He loved it.

There's an NRA sticker next to the rear one.

Dstorm, there is nothing against the law in the State of Oregon about carrying a gun into a bar(unless you were talking about a diff state LOL).

I am a redneck with the typical redneck 4x4, and I have gun related stickers all over the back window, along with stuff for the 4x4 club. While other cars nearby in the same parking lot where I lived were getting broken into, my truck was always given a WIDE berth. One of my neighbors it was obvious that a couple of his rfiends were of the criminal mindset, and it was known that one or two had broken into vehicles nearby. The neighbor had told his friends doing it to stop coming around. I once asked him, how come his friends when I saw them never got within 10-15 feet of my truck. Well evidently one of them once told him, he didn't give a damn what was in that truck he was going nowhere near it. It had all the gun stuff in the window and there may or may not be a gun in there, but getting his ass blown away by the owner did not sound like the best way to live to see his next birthday. He regarded anyone who has stickers in his window like that is most likely legal to own the guns, and has no problems busting one in his ass. Cops aren't going to bust someone who has a legal gun, but they sure will make his life hell if he lives through it.

So the stickers on my window have served as a deterrant. They are as follows, an Oregon Firearms Federation sticker, with the classic AR-15 on it, an NRA sticker, an NRA-ILA activist sticker, a sticker that states "guns don't kill people, people kill people"(that one a guy at the service stationed yelled at me for stating that the constitution applied to muskets, to which I replied, thank you for clearing that up, I didn't realize the second amendment said the right to keep and bear muskets shall not be infringed, to which he said something along the lines of f off a hole and walked off), and a couple of other small ones. Most of the rest are 4x4 related stickers. I want custom plates and will get them, but don't have the $$ as of this moment, and I'm not driving my real truck right now which is the only rig I have that I paln on keeping.

51Cards call me ignorant, but, I don't get it. Maybe because I'm tired, but still.
