Evidently, all is not "a done deal" with regard to the two Border Patrol agents.

Covered in this blog posting:
A Department of Homeland Security official admitted today the agency misled Congress when it contended it possessed investigative reports proving Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean confessed guilt and declared they "wanted to shoot some Mexicans" prior to the incident that led to their imprisonment.

The admission came during the testimony of DHS Inspector General Richard L. Skinner before the Homeland Security Subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee, according to Michael Green, press secretary for Rep. John Culberson, R-Texas.

Culberson was questioning Skinner about a meeting DHS officials had Sept. 26 with him and three other Republican congressman from Texas, Reps. Ted Poe, Michael McCaul and Kenny Marchant.

WND previously reported that at that meeting the DHS Inspector General's office asserted it had documentary evidence Ramos and Compean:
  1. confessed to knowingly shooting at an unarmed suspect;
  2. stated during the interrogation they did not believe the suspect was a threat to them at the time of the shooting;
  3. stated that day they "wanted to shoot a Mexican";
  4. were belligerent to investigators;
  5. destroyed evidence and lied to investigators.
Under questioning by Culberson, Skinner admitted DHS did not in fact have investigative reports to back up the claims: "The person who told you that misinformed you," Skinner reportedly replied.

This prompted a startled and angry response from Culberson, who charged Skinner's office with lying to the Texas congressmen and painting Ramos and Compean as dirty cops.

Ramos and Compean began prison sentences last month after their actions in the shooting of a drug smuggler who was granted immunity to testify against them.

Responding to Skinner's testimony yesterday, Poe said it "explains why DHS has been stonewalling Congress."

"DHS didn't turn over the reports to us to back up their September 26 accusations for one simple reason – the reports never existed," the Texas congressman said.

"Why did it take DHS four months to admit their error?" he asked. "I wonder how much more has DHS told the public and Congress about Ramos and Compean that simply isn't true?"

Poe said he's determined to get to the bottom of DHS's claim.

"I expect this new revelation will lead to a lot more questions before we're done," he said.

Andy Ramirez, who has been involved with the case as chairman of Friends of the Border Patrol, told WND the DHS's actions "represent obstruction of justice, and they should be held in contempt of Congress, and, if possible, prosecuted to the full extent of the law."

"This admission today is yet more proof of how they are willing to distort the facts, as I have charged all along, in order to ensure a conviction," he said.

This, coupled with the revelation by John Walsh (America's Most Wanted) of other bits of "doesn't add up" data, would seem to indicate a bit of "Union Pacific" justice here: it could well be they were railroaded.

The Ship of State continues to take on water. Looking ahead I'd recommend life preservers be put at the ready.

I heard today that Cong. Dana Rohrbacher is threatening Bush with impeachment proceedings if either agent is murdered in prison. There is a lot of outrage over this and, more importantly, what agenda appears to lie behind it. When the DHS is openly admitting prevarication, the tissue of trust is rent. What's left of the Bush administration is rapidly unraveling.

Ok, someone tell me exactly which branch of government that I am supposed to trust again?

That's what not having principles will get ya.

Put another log on the fire, it's getting cold in this kettle.

I've been watching this for a few days now, and it looks like MSM is FINALLY picking it up. Which is good, but we all know how MSM likes to twist things around so that we end up believing that black really is white.

I just hope we can eject the warp core that is the Bush Admin before it breaches and takes out the whole Ship of State.

Strangely, it appears that transcripts of the trial are still unavailable.

:what:

The implication here is that the officers were unjustly convicted. However there's a lot of missing information... especially if the transcripts of the trial are sealed.

Is there any reason or motive for DHS to use underhanded tricks to convict these border patrol agents?

And why is Congress involved?

Ok, someone tell me exactly which branch of government that I am supposed to trust again?

Trust government? :eek:

"Department of Homeland Security" - the most disturbing name for a government agency since "Ministry of Truth."

At this hour I don't even want to think of how big the implications of this are.

Cross posted the Article on another forum btw (form of theothersideofkim.com)

will post more comments in the morning.

Don't know, but if the BP is part of the DHS (and it is) and the DHS is lying about their own agents, this is, to say the least, very disturbing. As I mentioned earlier, the transcripts are not yet available.

hmmm...

...
Just an opinion like anyone who wasn't there but it appears they want to send a message to law enforcement.
uhhh...more like, this is what we do to our own, imagine what we'll do to YOU
:scrutiny:

Since it is odvious that therse guys are innocent does not it behoove us to keep bugging our senators and representatives about this matter? I understand there was some type of congressional investigation BUT you can investigate in one hand and crap inthe other and what do you have? The people of our country are unhappy about the situation on the border to say the least and I guess saying the least is the problem there should be more clamor about this situation AND the North American Union. It is odvious the border patrol ageants don't belong in prison and those who railroaded them there do!! It is also painfully obvious that WE (not just gun owners) as Americans are being silently railroaded into merging the US Mexico and Canada. First they will tell you "it's just economic" but if they get that shoved down out throats it will be now "we must harmonize our laws with a continental constitution" - you know where they will shove that! It has NEVER been more important for all freedom loving Americans to GET INVOLVED!!!!

especially if the transcripts of the trial are sealed.
They are not sealed; they just haven't been transcribed yet. Claim is that the court reporter has been ill (for a few months now).

Did DHS testify at the trial?
Don't know, but DHS testified to Congress. That is where the false statements were made. When Congress demanded answers, the response from DHS reportedly was, "If you don't like the answers we give, we will just quit giving answers."

All of this smacks of covering up a railroading. If that is not so, then they should stop covering it up.

I wish more in congress would listen to the likes of Ted Poe. He and Culberson stood up for those agents and that makes me feel like there are still a few good guys left in politics.

Ted Poe was a judge here in Harris Co for several years...a hard-ass...but a fair hard-ass...he would make the punishment fit the crime type of judge.

Make a good prez, IMO....

Heh...it would be a helluva slogan...we need TP in the Whitehouse!

The transcript not being available is no accident. It is being held back so they can not file their appeal.

If they'll do it to their own, they will damn sure do it to you or me or anyone else. Does anyone still believe that suspending Habeas Corpus for "terrorists" is a good idea?

Impeaching the entire Bush administration would be a start, but the vast corrupt system that produces this insanity would still remain.

Impeaching the entire Bush administration would be a start, but the vast corrupt system that produces this insanity would still remain.

Exactly, the whole system needs replaced, question is with What & How?

not to mention that it is something that is likely to get very ugly in a hurry.

As you all know I will be the first one to "bash" a dirty cop.
These guys were railroaded.Period. I believe that everyone who had a hand in prosecuting should be handed the exact same sentence that was handed down to the agents.

I realize this is certainly not a "left-wing" website, but the immediate reaction of blaming the Bush administration is misplaced. As it turns out, the man directly involved in getting these two charged (supervisor) is a childhood friend of the drugdealer that they shot at. In addition, the second count of illegally smuggling drugs (which happened months later) was dropped by the prosecutor, because he was more interested in proving corruption in the DHS. He dropped the second set of charges in return for the testimony of said drug dealer.

Once the facts came out, it looks like a very dirty guy who is willing to throw his own officers under the bus in order to protect his drug-runner buddy (what are the odds there is money involved?), followed by a political hack of a prosecutor more interested in giving the DHS a black eye than avoiding putting two innocent men in jail.

By jumping straight to the "impeach Bush", "DHS is evil", and "look at what our government is becoming because of the GWOT", you are doing exactly what that hack of a prosecutor intended for you to do. When being sceptical, remember to look at least as closely at people who appear to agree with you. Yes, the GWOT is being used to erode our rights. No, this isn't an example of DHS going overboard.

JMO, as always.
