I went over to Sportsman's Guide's website today (as I all too often do), looking for a quick way to relieve myself of my money. I think, over the years, that I have spent at least $4000 on that silly website...

In any case, they are having a discounted sale on 155mm mortal shell cans. These cans are 26x6.5x20 (approx) and made of good quality steel. They weight 28.6 pounds.

Currently the price is 11.95 or so. With a member's discount, it comes out to 10.77. These are excellent containers for all your water, medical, ammo, etc SHTF supplies, especially if you live in an earthquake-prone zone as I do. It does no good to hoard hundreds of gallons of water only to have your roof cave in a crush all those little boxes and jugs... nor would it be a good idea to allow rodents / insects / floodwater to turn your supplies into so much slush.

But here's the real kicker - apparently, SPG is not charging heavy/bulky shipping fees on these cans!

I was able to buy 8 cans and 1 Euro Wood Locker box (26 pounds, also no bulky fees), for a total combined weight of about 300lbs, for about $100. Shipping was about $11, and after using a $10 coupon that you get whenever you spend more than $50 at SPG, I was able to get all 9 containers for about $100, shipped.

These are containers that will take a beating from heck and still keep your supplies safe. If you are in any way planning for SHTF, you really might benefit from walking over and taking a look... before they run out. This is an unbelievable bargain IMHO, esp. if you think about how much these containers cost at local stores, or worse yet, Uncle Sam.

I have the same affliction. I find myself buying stuff there that I don't need. The prices are too good to pass up at times. They do sell some real junk at times, though, so you have to do your homework and be more thorough before buying. One of the best deals I got were for some Doc Marten's 8877s. I'm about to send in another order for a set of New Balances. Pretty bad when you do half of your clothing shopping at SG.

I sent that Gary Olen guy to Hawaii. Sheesh...

I have bought way too much stuff on that site as well. Any way, I think it is a good idea. I have practiced the dispersal method, packing goods in different locations to reduce the likelihood that an earthquake would destroy everything. It's a good idea to protect your supplies.
