Grinding up your own walnut shell media

Does the wife have a vitamix or maybe an old blender afterwards you could use some screen wire to size/grade the resulting dust. Any leftovers can still be burnt as fuel. Cost is not the only reason for doing something. There is a lot to be said for knowlege gained by trying new things. I myself am working on a wet tumbler with the intention of using steel BB's as tumbling media. May or may not work but no harm in trying. So go for it dont let the naysayers get you down.

Thanks Neuservrat and John, spelling is not one of my strong points (LOL), John I never knew that you could raise petunias in WY (LOL), how do you get all that pollen off the cases after tumbling?

ROTFLMAO
I tried to keep the flower beds up around here till the last few years, now they're kinda big patches of weeds.
Pollen's no problem, just turn in a small bunch of bumble bee's; gotta work 'em easy, those half wild range bees can get pretty ring tailed!

Thanks for all the comments folks, both positive and negative. I had no idea this would bring such an outpouring of interest.

I did take the advise of a couple of you and contacted my cousin, who runs the elevator and mill in our rural area. He told me to bring them in and he would run them through the grist mill that is used to grind corn into mash. They will then run them through the blower to eliminate the dust and then fine screen them to match the size of the commercial walnut media I took along to show him. He said he will do it in return for half, as his father-in-law also loads.

I've got several burlap bags full of walnut hulls, so that should net a goodly amount of media. Don't know why I didn't think of him before, and wouldn't have had I not posted the thread. Once again, many thanks.

Mike
