Gun club affiliations on your Resume?

Jim Keenan...

On government forms, especially those involving a security clearance, omitting any significant affiliations (Sam's Club doesn't count) is a no-no.

You are mixing two different "forms" and purposes.. The Security Clearance request is not a job resume. Currently the Government is using a resume-type approach for hiring. Investigating one's background for a clearance is a different matter (and form).

Put on your resume whatever might increase your ability to hired over the other guy. Nothing more and nothing less.

And remember if they ask you if you can operate a Computron-o-matic 1000 diagometer you say: Yes.

Use It If Pertinent to the Task At Hand

My hunting and shooting-related membership affiliations are listed on my CCW instructor profile but simply are not "relevant" to my day job qualifications. My abilities and shooting affiliations are listed on my Scouting qualifications because it helped me get approved to be a Shotgun merit badge counselor.

Most of us can do a lot of different things, and we have 'qualifications' that are more pertinent to some activities than others. So 'pick and choose' those that are the most useful and connected to the position or responsibilities you are seeking.

That's my $.02

Stick with the professional affiliations only...unless you have a leadership roll in the others. If you served as President of you Rotary club...you might include that.
