Data released by the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) for the year reported 14,033,824 NICS Checks for the year of 2009, a 10 percent increase in gun purchases from the 12,709,023 reported in 2008.
So far that is roughly 14,000,000+ guns bought last year!
The total is probably more as many NICS background checks cover the purchase of more than one gun at a time by individuals.

To put it in perspective that is more guns than the combined active armies of the top 21 countries in the world. countries by number of troops

Of the NICS background checks preformed less than and average .005% were denied, showing, overwhelmingly, that law abiding American citizens are the ones buying guns and that criminals are getting their guns elsewhere.

14,033,824,000 billions rounds of Ammo
Assuming each gun buyer bought 1000 rounds of ammo for each purchase, and you and I know that it is way, way more than that, that would be easily 14,033,824,000+ billions rounds of ammo fired by USA gun owners.

What percent of people were killed or injured by this ammo…it is just to infinitesimally small for me to calculate?

Crime At Record Lows
This record year in firearms background checks show that Americans are solidly in-favor of exercising their civil right to Keep and Bear Arms.

That means we're a force (militia) to be reckoned with...............

Any stats on the total number of firearms held by our citizenry?

Me and the wife bought 3 pistols and 4 rifles in 09, must have bought 8 - 10,000 rounds of ammo too. Problem with just quoting x number of ammo bought though is that it doesn't take into account caliber. The VAST majority of my ammo buying and expenditure has been 22LR.

They also say "Law abiding citizens" (Elsewhere to you) are the ones buying the guns and giving them to the criminals. Ask Michael Broomberg. It must be that only way you can get a fire arm ones it leaves e factory is by buying it from FFL, and then I guess the theory goes they get traded from there on to 2nd, 3rd and 4th parties. I sure don't know what the facts are, and would be interested to know.

I am sure you already know this is the argument they use to restrict guns to Law abiding citizens. I think the pro crowd should come up with facts where the criminals get their weapons, and prove the origin was not direct or indirectly from said Law abiding citizens.

Oh BTW I contributed 2 NICS checks and 4 guns to that count.

I think that is a big assumption. Many of these purchases are still going to be fence-sitters wanting to get an HD shotgun or .357 revolver before they're banned, and buy maybe one or two boxes of ammo that will never be shot.

As I'm understanding it, it was only a 10% increase in purchases and ammo got hard to come by easy and relatively cheap. Now ammo is starting to limp back in availability and affordability, granted a mix of everyone being full up and the economy making it harder to justfiy going to the range twice a month for a lot of folks.

I knew lots of folks who got their first EBRs, I was one of them now I've got 8(FALs, CETMEs, AR-15s, Saigas). And tons upon tons of ammo(granted I'm also an NRA instructor and use lots of it for my classes, got several hundred pounds of spent brass).

I know plenty of folks who bought their first firearms ever that bought them in private sales. Our numbers are growing folks, we got a chance to set things right in how our rights are granted and managed. Folks are waking up to the lies and propaganda of the Bradys and such. Not too much longer and our numbers be they actual owners or supporters will far outpace theirs.

We now have a very very well armed and equipped country. :D

In California, we even have a 1 new gun a month limit (no limits on used gun transfers) - what were they thinking???

I told my wife, "Holy Moly! Honey, we got work to do ... that's 12 guns a year!"

We came short of that requirement in 2009 though ... only 5 pistols and 1 shotgun. Will try harder in 2010.

FBI already did that for us.

Less than 2% of guns used in crimes were obtained at gun shows directly by criminals.

Around 18% came from legal purchases which were then either used in crime by the purchaser, or were straw purchases. They don't break that number down.

The rest were stolen from legal owners then resold through illegal transactions.

It's just that Bloomberg and the other groups lie about it and the media repeats their story.

All those buyers have one thing in common…

They were all 18 years old or older…

Which means they can vote. :uhoh:

Some folks in Washington who can remember the election of ‘94 should be getting a case of queasy stomach about now.

I did my part I bought 2 last year.:D

Thats good news, the more guns we have in the hands of good people the better!
