Hey everybody, yesterday I was assigned a persuasive speech in my 10th grade honors speech class. My topic is Supporting Gun Rights. Anybody have any ideas for main points and evidence to back it up ?
-Thanks

i would look up violent crime & murder rates in places with the toughest gun laws and cities similarly in size with the least amount of gun laws. look at a side by side comparisons. my guess is that dc, chicago, and ny city have some of the strongest anti gun laws and high rates of violent crime. their will probably be some others along shortly with some good ideas as well. hope this helps & good luck to you on your assignment.

Argument wise you will need to deal with a couple of issues

1. That guns are tools, they can be used for good or for evil. (You will need to deal with the all guns are evil idea right up front).
2. That we need more gun laws - I would explain what the current laws are regarding
required back ground checks for new gun purchases, limits on ownership by felons, etc. Then explain that before new laws should be implimented, current laws should be enforced to see if they work.
3. Talk about Crime rates (compare washington D.C.'s murder rate with Virginia's murder, rate). D.C. prohibits (or did prior to Heller) firearms, while Virigina allows them.
4. Compare historically what happens when guns are confiscated by the state (ie. Germany, Russia, Hungary, vs. Switzerland).
