Just got my new gun safe. Exactly what I wanted except- it came in with an electronic lock instead of the combination I ordered. I don't have any real experience with electronic locks although I have quite a bit with electronic keypads. The vendor says he will swap it out if I don't like it. Has anyone had any trouble with the electronic units? Any known flaws?

Change out the batteries regularly... keep a key handy too if it has a key backup.

My pistol safe is batteries only with a key backup and I cannot find a single flaw except for the lockout timing. In the event you mis-enter the code you have to wait a few seconds before trying again.

I much prefer an electronic lock, especially since my biggest safe is tucked away in the back of a closet, under the stairs. With only 60 inches of headroom (I'm 6' 2") a combo lock would be a royal PITA. So far I've never had any problems with any of the three safes that I have, and all have electronic locks.

Good choice, Bill. The Trophy Series is Champion's best value, IMHO.

A lot of people who buy Champions opt for the bottom-of-the-line Sport Series, simply because they're cheaper.

The Trophy Series costs a little more, but is definitely the better buy. The Trophy has a Class III fire rating, UL security rating and lifetime warranty.

Whereas the Sport Series has only a Class I fire rating, no UL rating, and only a five year warranty.

Much better lock (reliability wise) than the S&Gs. I wouldn't worry about it.

Just drilled one the other day at a Dairy Queen. It had been opened at least 10 times a day for the last 15 years. Very simple design as far as electronic locks go, which means there are fewer things to go wrong.
