It seems like a law written by misogynists who don't want anyone to carry. "Let's allow permitless purse carry. Those women will never use it anyways. And real men will still be forced to pay to carry their pistols in holsters if they want to carry." Don't get me wrong, it's a step in the right direction, it just seems like a.step that's not really going to help many people. And the "enhanced" permit that they offer just sounds like a way to milk more money from taxpayers. I'm honestly not trying to brag, but if Mississippi gun owners really want to push for legislation that would help everyone, take a look at what Kansas has done in the last 3-4 years. We've only had concealed carry since 2007 (legislation passed in '06) but I'd say laws are in the top 3-5 best in the nation right now. Maybe to start, push to make every permit "enhanced" without adding any expense to it.

An Adams Co. sheriff's deputy and I were talking on the night of July 2 while changing a flat tire and he told me that as of July 1, no permit is required to carry concealed in Mississippi and open carry is legal without a permit so I guess that makes us constitutional carry. Hooray!!!!!!!

Winterville Mounds. Are those the Indian burial mounds?
If so I've been there a few times.

I'm trying to remember the park that had an old T33 trainer jet that was gutted, and you could sit in. Used to do that as a kid.
Until we found someone had defecated in one of the seats.

I wonder if Lake Ferguson is still a good place to fish?

Not so much burial mounds (though there were/are burials there, most in the smaller mounds), it was both a ceremonial center and the place where the local elite lived.

Prince, tell me what Good Ole Boy drafted by a bunch of old white men (eh, I'm a white man, so what are you saying?) can you point to or are you just showing prejudice?

My original response was tongue-in-cheek, but while you are out on that limb, do share with us.

A lot of legislation in "The South", was drafted with the interests of established white men in mind. In practice, these laws "worked". That is, they kept firearms out of the hands of blacks and poor whites (basically those who weren't eligible to vote). Since those people couldn't vote, any "stink" they raised generally went unanswered. As time moved on, the enfranchised realized that they'd have to throw a bone now and then to their (newly enfranchised) voters.

In the early 90s this could be seen with Bill Clinton talking about "nobody going to school during huntin' season" whenever he was pressed about his stance on gun rights.

Today, it can be seen in the issuance of permits: Texas' reluctance on open carry; Mississippi's stance on campus carry and "permitless carry", etc.

Go back a couple years... Texas got permitless car carry. Some folks said, "oh! Awesome! Now we don't need a permit to carry!" No, you got a bone thrown to you by the "good-ol-boy" club who realized that they could appease a percentage of their electorate by enacting a law that didn't really do much.

This Mississippi law doesn't really do much. It only is a positive to a few. Now, It's better than nothing, but is still indicative of good-ol-boy culutre... see multiple levels of permits (ie Enhanced Permits vs regular permits vs handbag/briefcase carry). There's multiple classes of carriers.

Remember a couple years ago the pro-2a sheriffs who said they would defend the 2a against Obama? How many of them will sign off on your Form 4s for SBRs and Silencers? Good-old boy club. It exists.

Good ole boy culture???? Are you serious? Then let me explain. You can carry a loaded firearm in a purse, backpack, laptop case, car, truck, luggage, etc without a license. Black, white, Choctaw, you name it. We don't specify race.

You can also get a concealed carry license. The basic license does everything any other standard license does in the country as a general rule. The enhanced allows you to carry virtually anywhere except police departments or places where the Feds say no. More enlightened places like New York, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey must be so much better than us redneck good ole boys.

My advice is to actually spend time in Mississippi. All you have learned from Mississippi Burning and A Time to Kill is either outdated or outright wrong. I'm not from here, moved here in 1995 for an employment opportunity, and discovered just how wrong you are.

No, I changed my mind. Don't come. We don't need any more prejudice, lob your turd bombs from afar.
