Will those gun scrubber sprays strip bluing??

I had to give the crane a quick shot of gun scrubber to loosen it up....then afterwards I got to wondering if this stuff could ruin the bluing.

I don't know the answer for sure, but I had a police officer friend a number of years ago who swore by Gun Scrubber. I would think if it damaged the bluing on his sidearm, he would not have recommended the product to me.

Hope someone here can give you a definitive answer.

No problem. Gun scrubber will strip oil & grease but will not harm bluing. Be sure to re-oil after the gun scrubber to help protect the surface finish from rust.

I agree with Sport45 as I've been using Gun Scrubber for years and it has never damaged the bluing.

Cool! Thanks for the quick replies! I've only ever used this on my semi-autos which are either stainless or that black baked on stuff.

I have another gun scrubber question.
Is gun scrubber and brake parts cleaner the same basic thing??? The fumes sure smell the same! :barf:

CRC Brakekleen in the red can is the same as Gunscrubber.

I use any brand non-clorinated brake cleaner and it's safe for polymer as well. I see no difference other than the price.
