How long after you take a gun to shop to be put on consignment should it take to be logged and make it out on display? I'm asking cause I'm currently waiting for this to happen and I think its been way too long. So how long is too long? Thanks.

I do them in a matter of minutes. Normally we'll log them in as soon as the customer has filled out the consignment paperwork.

Keep in mind that the store might just be swamped. Believe it or not, it does get busy in the gun business sometimes, and if you're dealing with a 1-2 man operation, they can often just get hammered and not get a chance to do stuff.

Now legally, once you leave the gun in the FFL's possession, it needs to get put on the bound book. No ifs, ands, or buts, that is how it works.

OK, here is the thing. This shop is not huge, yes they get busy but so does everyone. I have done a good deal of business with them and bought two guns from them in the last 30 days. However, its been almost 3 weeks and its still not on the rack, I've asked a couple of times "oh, did my rifle sell already" thinking that it did and I'll get a response of "oh we havn't got it out yet we will get too it soon" Needless to say its getting very annoying. So what is the best advise, go get it back or ask if they ever plan on trying to sell it?

I would take it out of consignment and explain that three weeks is entirely too long. Take it to another shop, list them here, sell online via gunbroker or gunsamerica.

Check AuctionArms.com and GunBroker.com. It's not unusual for these guys to go that route, at least not unusual around here. Although I'm not sure why they wouldn't tell you if they did.

Happy Customer,

Correia nailed it. I reciently had two guns consigned for sale at a local gun store, hmmmmmm.....the name escapes me...........Fuzzy bum, furry bum or something like that gun store :neener:
Anyway the proprieter, a large, good looking, highly intelligent, well dressed, and articulate individual had the paperwork finished before I could finish browsing the display case.
When the guns sold, I was notified by phone immediately. I then came to the store at my leisure and picked up my $$

I am a very happy customer.

Sounds like someone at the shop or one of their friends are the likely buyers and don't have the money.

Not sure about NH laws/regs...

...but in Tucson, AZ ANY gun received by an FFL from a private individual(as opposed to a wholesale distributor, manufacturer or other FFL) MUST be reported to local LE on a "pawn slip" so that the TPD burglary unit can run the serial # to check if the gun is stolen. The "pawn slip" MUST be mailed within 1 business day after the gun is accepted by the FFL. An FFL is NOT allowed to sell the gun for 3 weeks, to allow for time to run the #'s. This includes guns placed on consignment as well as used guns bought outright by the FFL. Now, an FFL can DISPLAY the gun in question, and take deposits on it, but it MAY NOT leave the licensed premises until the 3-wk period is over.

Again, I know NOTHING about NH gun laws or regulations, but something similar may be required of FFL's in your jurisdiction.

One thing a lot of people are not aware of is that retreiving a consignment firearm requires a complete NICS check and completion of a 4473, which could be a real pain, depending on the state.

list it here

3 weeks is too long. In our shop everything is on a computer so we run into a problem on getting stuff out. However there are two sides to everything. So ask him what the deal is maybe he can give you a reason. List it on any of the auction sites or here and it will sell soon.Consignment is not something most dealers enjoy but if you provide the service it to should be done with the same respect that you sell your own guns.
