Well here is your reason why H&K sued GSG and ATI. Umarex is making a MP5 in .22 with offical H&K approval. Both have metal receivers and collapsable stocks. No word on how many dinero they will cost.

Umarex .22 MP5

They are also making a HK416 AR in .22

Both links go to Steve's "The Firearm Blog." Click through to see the pics and specs. Hopefully these won't be as bad as the Umarex Colt AR15's.

The lawsuit makes a lot of sense now that H&K has revealed they are getting into this market.

Guess GSG stole from HK, then HK let Umarex steal GSG .22 concept...
Regardless either way I'm glad GSG came up with their rifle, if they hadn't
I doubt HK ever would of, when they saw the sales from GSG that was the
reason.....$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

Oh great. another gun from Umarex, a company that can't understand Firearms are not Airsoft. Seriously just look at the Colt .22 they made. If that is the kind of quality we can expect then we are hosed.

I handled the GSG today and was really tempted to buy the used one for $400. It was pretty nice and will be the closest I get to a real MP5 but the chance of a broken part making the gun into a paperweight worries me.

The GSG-5 was a great gun that actually worked. I've put thousands of rounds the the GSG-5 with a rare hiccup now and then most likey from just getting too dirty.

I would not buy any Umarex gun I don't care how cool it looks. Umarex has a terrible track record and I wouldn't waste my money on one.

ATI has stated that they will continue to service the GSG-5 despite the fact that it has been discontinued. So if you buy one and it breaks down the road you still shouldn't have any problem getting it fixed. Buy a GSG-5 you will not regret it!

I have a GSG and don't regret buying it in the least. It's the closest thing to an MP5 I'm gonna own and I certainly am not expecting H&K (or Umarex) to offer a suitably reliable replacement for under $500 either. My only regret is they never pumped out a production 9mm carbine before they stopped making them.

Maybe I will go back and look more closely at the used model... I was strongly considering the S&W AR in 22lr too after handling it. The four full rails on the forearm was annoying but those can be covered up or a vertical grip can be added.

the gsg-5 may be a thing of the past but their 9mm copy is in the atf's hands right now being tested for approval.

A GSG-5 in 9mm....that would go with my GSG .22...hope this is true an they
can market it...without a hassle from HK though.

the 9mm is not actually made by gsg but it is being imported by ati who is gsg's us importer. the prototype is rather rough & ugly but they say the finished product will be much nicer & different enough from the mp5 that it wont be a problem unless h&k considers all fun 9mm pistols to be their idea.
the gun its based on is actually already on sale in turkey but had to be modifed so it could be sold here. there are twp pistol versions & a carbine

Umarex is the company that made the Colt .22 that broke in half (in a thread posted here on THR I believe) correct?

Question, for all those at home:

Why hasn't HK sued PTR?

I mean if all these theory's are true they would certainly have sued them and gone into the 91 business.
