I have just purchased this rifle and was wondering if anyone else has one, where to get scope mounts, rings, scope what kind of scope fits this gun well and any other info I can get on it, Thanks in advance

First, welcome to the forums. Secondly, I'm betting this would get better and more responses if put in a more appropriate forum area. ;) Anywho...

A co-worker has one and it's a very accurate shooter out to 200 yrds. He's using handloads and a tang sight - no optics. For specifics on this, I'd go here: H&R Forum Much more specif talk on what you're looking for.

I have one, good shooter. I ordered the scope mount from H&R here is the order form http://www.hr1871.com/store/orderForm.htm They are pretty front heavy with the long barrel but fun to shoot. I put a Leupold VXI scope on mine but I don't care for it too much and will most likely replace it with a better one. I may even just go back to the peep sight.

Fun information on the 45-70

I recently bought a replica Trapdoor Springfield 45-70 carbine but have not shot it yet. However, in researching this cartridge on the internet I found a historical article about the Springfield Armory testing the potential of the 45-70 cartridge in 1879. This document reports that the Armory found a big empty area on one occasion to test the gun at around a 1000 yards or more and then also used the Atlantic Ocean beach on another occasion. The big thing I remember is that they set up a target and had their shooting expert fire the 45-70 from around 2200 yards, yes that is right, 2200 yards. I think the target was something along the size of a railroad box car. Anyway, at over 2000 yards the target was hit 5 times out of 80 fired rounds. The document even gives the exact angle that the muzzle was raised to get this distance. Amazing. I think the angle was something like 30 degrees. Think about that. 2200 yards is along the order of 1.3 miles. Enjoy your 45-70 and be careful where you shoot it, or at least how high an angle you do. :uhoh:
