In these times of component shortages, I am finding myself using powders that I already have for calibers that I typically used another powder for. An example of this is using Promo shotgun powder to load .38 special wadcutter ammo. It is not ideal, but it works pretty well.

This leads me to a question regarding H335 powder. Does anyone have any familiarity with using it in 147-150 gr. .308 service rifle loads? Usually I use Varget or IMR 4046, but that is not something I have a large supply of at the moment. I do, however, have 10 pounds of H335 that I use for my .223. I know that you can load .30-06 service rifle loads with it as I have done it successfully. I have searched the internet for H335 service rifle .308 data, and see reports that it can be done, but have never found the data. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I know that there are better choices, but if worse comes to worse, can I use it for this?

If you go over to the M14 forum, I asked that exact same question. I use H335 for 5.56mm, but would love to simplify my powder for 7.62mm blasting ammos to just one powder. I got mixed answers.

The consensus is that it can be used, but is not the best powder for service rifle. The burn rate chart makes it look like a little round peg in a little round hole, but of all my answers, only one poster actually used H335 wholesale for some time in 7.62mm.

The lack of service rifle data, particularly from, of all people... Hodgdon... has me discarding the idea. If you have the time and place to work up a load with it, I'd love to see your results.
