Hand gun "Break in"

i got another question kind of on the same topic, if you bought a gun, like my baby eagle .45 acp, and it had FTE's at 123 rounds becuase the extractor hook broke, is there enough rounds you could put through the gun after being repaired to ever trust it again? that exact gun i mean, not another of the same model.

i personaly have never trusted it for carry since that, though i've put 1k+ through it after being fixed and no FTE or FTF.

also i put about 500 rounds through my M&P40 before i was to attached to it not to carry. i not sure if it takes a exact number of rounds before you gain trust in you gun, but enough rounds to get a feel and to make sure you didnt purchase a lemon is a good idea.

I would want to put about 200 rounds through any handgun I bought (new or used, revolver or semi-auto).
That (IMHO) is enouigh to give you a good feel for the gun's reliability. If it's a POS, you'd probably know within 20-30 rounds.

When I bought my Kahr MK9, Kahr reccomended a 200 round break in period before carry. I'd say that's reasonable...

As far as revolvers, I put the rounds through to determine reliability, not as a "break in" period.

Actually I thought "gun it and run it" was a pretty good answer, that's my break in procedure for handguns.....

I usually don't use my handloads at first but other than that I just clean it once and shoot the hound out of it.
