I'm just curious, do any of you stick with just handguns, just long guns or do most of you have both? I have been buying handguns and skipping the long guns simply because I don't have a convenient place to shoot anything but handguns (okay, I also really enjoy looking for good handgun deals). I have been thinking about buying some long guns lately in case the winds of change start blowing even though I wouldn't get to shoot them much. I ordered a Saiga in 7.62x39 more than a month ago at my LGS but have no idea when I will get it (I would get one somewhere else if I could find a site that had them) and have also been looking at a Remington 870 (how many variations can there be?).

Anyway, just curious if there are others out there like me.

I have both but mostly I have handguns.

I have nearly 1500 firearms total and decided a while back that handguns take up less room. ;)

Both here as well. My handguns vastly outnumber my long guns, but I do have a fair complement of each.

I'm the same with the whole no convenient place to shoot thing. You have to be a member of any rifle ranges around here for them to let you shoot I think. So I have to go out into the middle of nowhere where I have a friend with a bunch of land far away from people. But I'll be getting a Marlin lever-action when I turn 18 and I'm going to try and get a membership someplace closer.

Right now I have more long guns than hand guns. Used to like to hunt. Haven't been in a while might get back to it one day though. But I got more interested in handguns the last year or so. Since then I've been trying to change the ratio.

Both.... but heavy on the long range long guns

I really am getting into long range shooting, well, long range for me anyway. We started prairie dog shooting 2 years ago and we're now taking the little yipping fur-balls at 600 - 650 yards so long guns seem to be the ticket.

I own more hand guns than rifles.

I learned on hand guns and PREFER hand guns.

I love lever action rifles the MOST when it comes to rifles however I am willing to try any firearm! I own one semi automatic rifle - Marlin Papoose.

Just a thought, you can shoot a .22LR rifle anywhere you can safely shoot a centerfire handgun. Most indoor pistol ranges allow rimfire rifles.

You could get yourself a Ruger 10/22 or something similar and shoot it wherever you shoot your pistols.

That's a 10/22 with a Butler Creek stock that folds for storage, and an aftermarket magazine. Put a red dot on top and you'd have a fun little gun, IMO.

Well, here is a really bad shot of one of the rooms that I have my handguns in right now.
I have been going through these, cleaning and maintaining them as part of the normal process of ownership.
The gunroom is fully alarmed and that is currently set and I don't really feel like going through the trouble of unsetting it right now just to take a few pix. Sorry folks. Anyway, I will hunt about the HD and see if I have a few old pix of the room...

Actually, I am currently selling off a boat load of my guns. I am simply tired of taking care of all of them. At this point, I can say "Been there-done that" and that is enough for me. I'd like to get it down to something like a couple of hundred guns, and keep it there, so that I don't have to spend all of my time taking guns apart.

I've become pretty good at detail stripping just about any gun though and can usually figure out how to completely (as in completely) take it apart and put it back together without a book or diagram. I will admit though, sometimes I need to look at an exploded view.

I'm all done now. I am not trying to brag or be "All That" or anything. Actually I am surprised I said it.

Shooting is too much fun to limit it to just one type. Rifle, pistol, shotgun...even air guns. My grandson and I chase around the yard with water pistols. I'll shoot anything. I'm death on flies with a rubberband gun!

Mark.

I shoot both.

My first gun, which I bought when I was 18, was a shotgun - Benelli Nova Special Purpose 12ga Pump, for HD.

Second gun, when I was 21, was an HK P2000 in .40S&W. When I only owned 2 guns, I split my time evenly between both - the pistol was / is my carry gun, and the shotgun was for home defense, so I decided I needed to be proficient with both.

Since then, I've bought a couple more pistols and a couple rifles, too. I mostly shoot on weekends, try to get out at least 4 times a month, sometimes more, but sometimes I just can't. I alternate most weekends between long guns and handguns as a matter of balance.

The way I look at it, shooting handguns is a more practical matter. If I ever need to defend myself, it'll probably be with a pistol, especially since the Nova is now in a closet across the room and a 1911 is now in the nightstand, closer to reach.

On the other hand, I shoot long guns as a long-term concern. If things ever go south on a massive scale, I figure that the rifle will be more important than the handgun. Proficiency takes time to develop, so I train regularly to be proficient with all my weapons.

Of course, I enjoy shooting both, and I enjoy the challenge, so it's easy for me to alternate... but sometimes I just prefer shooting one or the other, so I shoot that.

In the long run, I think it's probably just a good thing that I shoot regularly, whatever weapon it happens to be at the moment. I'd recommend being able to at least handle a rifle, though I wouldn't neglect the pistols by any standard.

First firearms for me were long guns; 22 rifle, "deer" rifle, shotgun. The handguns came later after I reached 21. I initially purchased handguns because I could carry them easier in my vehicle without people noticing. I was on the road a lot back then and the long guns stayed at home.

I'm amazed there are places in America where people can't reasonably find a place to shoot long guns. Even a 10 mile drive out of the city ain't much for a day of fun shooting. Yeah, I know, some of our large city areas might mean more than 10 miles, but generally not too much farther.

I initially started with handguns, and then transitioned to Mil-Surps. I've got a spattering of modern rifles and shotguns.
You'll go through phases on what's got your interest. ;)

I've owned handguns for the last 15 years. Just got my first long gun, a 12 gauge, two months ago. 22 rifle next on the list.

I'd always though it was easier to find places to shoot handgun, but there are a lot of shotgun only ranges around (Trap & Skeet, mostly).
