In this thread Here, ya'll helped me out with deciding what to buy. Midway down the thread, I decided to put one together myself and I thought you nice folks might like to see what ended up with.

I bought a pre-assembled Rock River 16" midlength, Flattop carbine upper, with a detachable carry handle from Adco Firearms. It's not a chrome plated barrel, but the only thing I don't like about it is it has a heavy barrel. It's not that bad though. Fully assembled, the rifle weighs about the same as my SAR1. I still might get it turned down to a thinner profile at some point though.

The stripped Eagle Arms lower came from Quantico Arms. It's stuffed with Rock River parts from Adco. The Falcon Ergo grip came from Brownells.

Using from these instructions from www.ar15.com, the lower was super easy to build. All the parts fit perfectly, there were no surprises. Even with taking my time and being exceptionally carefull, I put it together in about two hours last night. The lower and upper fit together very tightly and even the finishes look very close after oiling them both with FP-10.

I'm extremely pleased with it. I took it to the range this morning to function test and sight in, shooting 60 rounds of Federal XM193. Even though it was snowing, windy and very cold, the carbine functioned perfectly with USGI, UK-SA80 and Israeli Orlite magazines. There were zero failures, glitches or unexpected issues. Using the Improved Battlesight Zero method, all I needed to do to get it sighted in was give it one click down on the front sight and one click to the right on the rear. Although I was shivering pretty bad, I was able to get it down to a 1" 5 shot group @50 yards just resting elbows on the bench and did a couple 2-3" 5 shot groups standing.

I guess now I need to build a 20" barrelled rifle.

Nice looking AR. I really like the aesthetics of the green furniture. Sets the rifle apart from the crowd.

Thanks for the compliments guys. :)

How much did it cost taking this route?
Well, let's see...

Complete Upper w/bolt and carrier was $480 including the carry handle (subtract $90 for the A2 type upper with a permanant carry handle). Parts kit was $150 ( I got the National Match trigger - subtract about $95 for the standard trigger). Buttstock kit was $54. Lower was $75, with $10 transfer fee. Ergo grip was $18.

Total: $787 ($812 if you include the NIW USGI mag and web sling as pictured above)

Alternatively, I could have built that rifle for $584 with an A2 type upper, standard trigger and standard pistol grip.

Usually I do the Safety Dance when i get a new rifle. It's weird, all of these little midgets appear and join in as we disappear to some far off renaissance-era village.

Nice rifle.

However, it looks like your sling is installed incorrectly. There supposed to be a hook on the loop end.

The buckle side supposed to be attached to the front. The loop side, which supposed to have a hook, attaches to the real sling loop.

They make it that way sothat it can be unhooked from the rear loop and use it for support.

You're right about the sling pbhome71. Good eye. I took the clip off because I didn't want to scratch up the sling hanger. I also didn't like the way the metal pieces rattle.

I mounted it with the flip lock in the rear so I can still remove the sling, tighten it up on my arm and use it to shoot with as you said, albiet slightly more cumbersome to do so now. However, I doubt I will do that much at all since I don't have a free float handguard. I'll probably only use it as a hasty sling to shoot with and that only requires that I set a length and leave it.
