I was looking at some pistol cases in a store today with flying in mind. It seemed to me that many of the plastic cases were no better than the ones that came with my guns. Some have hinges, plastic latches to lock them and holes to put a small padlock on. If it's a hard case and will take a small pad lock, is it good enough to fly with?

Based on my experience, they are acceptable. Make sure to check guidelines for the airline you are going to be using.

targus.com has metal a briefcase for a laptop computer, why not use it for pistols
Check out model TED003

I use a metallic/silvery-colored plastic box from "ADG Sports" purchased at Gander Mountain for under $30. It is surprisingly strong because the plastic is molded and reinforced and the hinges and locks are metal.

However, the locking mechanism is a single pin and can be picked with anything from a knife to a paper clip.

That said, this cheap-o plastic case has passed TSA with no problems many times.

You're supposed to put the gun box inside another piece of baggage if its small enough to steal.

Look up my post "Gun luggage" or something like that.

I was recently told at LAX that the lockable Glock box was not-ok.

I don't know why because it seems to fit the criteria on TSA's website.
