I Found this revolver after granddads death, on top of barrel is says USA PAT OCT 4 87 APR 2nd, 95, APR.7 96. Gun is blue5 shot it is a top brake. The SS# under the barrel back is 48188 on the chamber the number is #188.This gun is looks brand new.. Can this revolver be used with modern ammo, what kind of ammo would it use… Should I fire it?????
thanks:::Dougo

They can shoot modern ammo but I'd stick to black powder rounds, I believe Ten-X might have some to buy. From what I've seen, it being a 5 shot it's either a .32 S&W or a .38 S&W but I could be wrong.
I've shot a couple hundred rounds of modern ammo out of my old .32 S&W-L that everyone told me to use black powder in "or you'll be crazy and it'll blow up!". Although the cylinder has peened the recoil shield quite a bit and the top-break frame has noticeably loosened up, it still shoots fine with wadcutter ammo. Never shot straight with LRN.

I'd clean it and frame it if it were mine, ammo for these can be quite much.
