Sure looks nice on paper. They came out with new models of the Springfield EMP's for 2017. I owned a 40 in the 3" and sold it because I was afraid to scratch it up. I just can't get over banging up one of those fancy guns, so I carry Glocks and other guns under a thousand dollars for daily rotation, i would hate to lose another expensive barbcue gun in an incident.
But it is nice to have a couple of pretty pistols as most do. The new emp line, especially the bobtail and that new black slide 3" are very cool for a thousand or right around there. Too bad they can't get that look in a 45. If anyone shot one let me know, I got that bug again, but like 45's.

Is this the one you're talking about?

I haven't seen one in person -- but coincidentally -- as a fan of the SA Champion (my Loaded Stainless in .45 is a beautiful tank), I've been waiting for a nice lightweight Champion size in 9mm with a bobtail myself. Looks to be awesome. And yeah, it'd be nice in .45, but shooting a lightweight compact 1911 in 9mm is a heckuva lot of fun.

Oh, and just because a handgun might be expensive is no reason not to carry it ... if you had that "incident" and the gun did its job, one thinks losing the gun would be the least of your worries. I like to carry the guns I shoot the best, the fastest and the most accurately. Not gonna obsess about losing a tool if it saves my life or the life of a family member.

Here is the other one, https://www.slickguns.com/product/n...-champion-black-9mm-3-inch-10rd-compact-85900, as far as that Incident, I was given back the gun completely scratched with a scribe tool from front to back, "looke like they threw it on the floor an stepped on it". But I am particular with my stuff, if something gets banged up, I don't mind if it's a work tool, but a pretty gun like a nickel or stainless that gets banged up or scratched gets me crazy. Like my cars, same deal. Some idiot kicked the side of my Black mustang, no reason, just jealous I guess. I had to have it fixed right away, couldn't look at it, had a guys shoe imprint on it.
Like Travolta said in Pulp Fiction, You don't mess with another mans car", or Gun, "second part is mine, my dad added wife to that also.

That freshly inscribed gun back from the LEO Engraving Academy would be the perfect one to carry. It can't get any worse and anybody who you show it to would see that it was proof - and "proofed." It worked. It's also a good example of the current mindset exercised by LEO's and support staff. If you had it pics would be in order.

One of the suggestions that AR builders like to throw out to new owners is to wrap a logging chain around the gun and drag it down a dirt road. No, I'm not going to do it either, but looking at how difficult some guns are to disassemble, finding scratch marks around the slide stop pin or lever, on the butt from getting dropped, holster wear from dirty kydex, etc. it's part and parcel of what guns suffer. It's also why S&W 3Gen collectors like about stainless - you can restore the finish to a high standard with just a 3M grit pad. Takes just a minute - I do it to my watch bands and knives, too. No, the inscribing won't buff out. But it's a truly custom finish and very few in town have it.

Guns are working tools and carrying one will result in a worn patina.

No honestly I sold it at a gun show some 20 years ago, as it was a custom pristine German gun, made into a junk gun bu a wise ass rookie. I could never keep it without restoring it, even the sights wre broked off, so I got rid of it and the memory didn't have to be contantly brought to my attention every time I looked at the gun I carried daily.
He got bounced back to patrol from undercover after I took him before a Captains hearing.

I ordered one yesterday, grabagun had a decent price. The only thing I wished for with my original EMP was a bobtail, but that wasn't feasible. I figured I could bob an EMP4 but hemmed and hawed about the cost. Then SA bobbed it for me :)

I handled one tonight..I liked it and liked shooting the regular 4" EMP, but I can't get over the proprietary mags it uses. The mags on the Contour model are flush thankfully, but I can't use my other 9mm 1911 mags in it, so that pretty much kills it for me. Oh well, Dan Wesson makes a Commander model round butt also.

Well, yeah ... for a few hundred bucks more.

I didn't know it used propietary mags -- and it's labeled a "Champion" -- should be able to use most industry standard 9mm 1911 mags -- pity. If I can't use the superb WC mags, that might be a deal-breaker.

I emailed Springfield about the mags a couple of weeks ago, and I got a response from them (unfortunately deleted now) but I asked if the magazines for the EMP Contour were flush fit as opposed to the other EMP Champion and she replied that yes, they are flush fit and like the EMP 4.0 Champion, non-EMP mags will not work. :(

Yes, the grip is shorter from front strap to back strap than a standard 1911 frame. That means that a standard 1911 mag will be too big to fit into the EMP4's magwell. The EMP frame is 7/8th size of a standard 1911 frame. That means any frame parts will be not be interchangeable with standard 1911 parts. No slide stop replacements, no thumb safety replacement, no grip safety replacement, no mainspring housing replacement, no mag release replacements, etc. If you plan on modifying then the EMP is not the best choice.

Yeah, all the proprietary parts kind of kill it for me. I have a hard time leaving well enough alone.

At the gun show today. $1049.00

Bought one today, will pick it up Tuesday (stoopid Illinoize laws....)

For those of us with girly hands, the difference between a 1911 and an EMP is a godsend.

Well, first 100 rounds went very well-this thing is a keeper.
Although my eyesight makes shooting beyond about 30' challenging for me, this was nowhere near the best target I got at 25';

Thanks. I wish it was cataracts, but it's not quite so simple. :(

And, while we have a few hundred rounds to go before this gets carried, I couldn't resist getting ready:
