I was reading and responding to a Guns America Blog about gun collecting and the thought occured to me about finding "that firearm", be it rifle, pistol, shotgun or ? That is the "ONE" that you always "go to", cannot be without, always have with you or near you. The one gun that you have to have or you feel naked without it?
I don't mean that you prefer to carry or that you feel is the most reliable or the best caliber or anything like that. I want you to go deeper than that.

What is the firearm that you have worn off all or most of the blueing, worn off all or most of the varnish, have shot it so much that it's now loose and rattley but you wouldn't trade it or sell it if your life depended on it.
Do you have one and why?

I don't have one that is that well worn or owned for that long yet, but I own one that will become that. I love, love, love my S&W 460V Magnum revolver with a 5" bbl. It fits my hand perfectly, I love the weight, the look, and what the gun is capable of doing. The versatility of this gun amazes me (.460 mag, .454 Casull, .45 Colt +P, .45 Colt, 45 Schoffield), and I will never, ever sell it, except to feed my family, which are theoretical at this point. I want to get it some Nills grips, and have some celtic knot work engraved on it. I need to take some pics.

I've never (in the last 60 years or so) had such an intimate relationship with a gun that I couldn't stand to be away from it to the degree you have described.
However, over the years I have found that I have to have a M1911 or 1911A1 somewhere in my stable. (the real thing, not one of the modern clones)
I don't carry it, I rarely even shoot it and I sure don't sleep and shower with it, but every time I've sold or traded one off I've found myself "incomplete" until I replace it.;):D

i know its sub caliber but i love my 32 cal kel=tek its so light it goes everywhere with me the blue is gone from all edges i've considered buying 380 model but have not as of yet it's light accurate enough now that i have gotten used to the trigger and i feel safe knowing it's alway's there:cool:

Nope, but I am still searching hoping the next one will be "the one". Reminds me I get paid tomorrow and need to stop by my LGS

I'm beginning to consider my Walther PPS .40 to be "The One." I still carry my LCP, but now mostly as a backup for the Walther.

Any type of AR. I was attached at the hip with one for four years and dont want to live without one.

Handgun, Colt Woodsman. I just happened to have a 1st series Match Target fall into my lap one day. I had been drooling over one after shooting my wifes grandfathers. If i had only had one handgun to choose from it would be a woodsman.

There is one pistol that I've handled once in my (admittedly short) lifetime that I absolutley fell in love with. An original Cz-75 "Short-rail". If I could both find (the easy part) and afford one (the hard part) it would be my all day-everyday carry gun from here to eternity.
Everything about it just felt "right".

Raven MP25. It was my first pistol...I always have it a few feet away, even as I type this it is literally within arm's reach. Don't know why but I bonded with this gun and even with all the negative rep it has I love it. Sure there are better pistols for defense and cheaper guns for shooting but that wasn't the question asked.

The gun I've bonded with the most was the little Raven.

I have found the one that works best for me: pistol = S&W mod 10 3" and rifle Ruger 77/22 MK II in .22 WMR, shotgun = Ruger Red Label SxS
Sadly I had to part with all but the 77/22 in one crisis or another, but I keep looking for the next replacement.

'My gun' is the Richard Marhoff drilling I inherited from my father. He had it built right after WWII. He was a tank destroyer outfit commander under Gen. Omar Bradley and remained in Germany in the army of occupation.
The drilling is chambered for 16gaX16ga. over .22 Savage High Power Ackley Improved. It has the finest workmanship of any firearm I've ever seen. My dad was quite the shooter/hunter/reloader/collector and the drilling was always the gun. He shot a hirsch (European elk) with it and I have the 6X6 rack hanging in my bedroom.
Although the gun is a rarity and extremely valuable (I had it appraised for approx. $12,000) I use it regularly to hunt whitetail, turkey and grouse. Some of my friends think I am crazy for actually hunting with it, for fear of damaging it, but that's what it was built for and that's what my dad used it for. He hunted with it, I hunt with it and my son will hunt with it.

I would never part with that gun and to me it has no price. It was my Dad's gun.

For me it would have to be my Colt Custom Gun Shop Combat Commander. If ever there was a gun in my collection that had the status of being "The One", this would be it.

Heck!
I have a gun room full of "The Ones".

But as soon as I get another wild hair, off I go again in search of another "The One's".

^ This ^

I'm still searching for the my all time favorite bestest ever, kind of hope I don't find it. ;)

Springfield Armory "Loaded" in .45acp. Ultra reliable and accurate enough for my uses.

I could do without everything else, but this is my "one"
(Ok I also have a Colt Commander that does it for me but I don't shoot it quite as well as the SA)((And my Browning HiPower is reliable and accurate too, but not a .45...)) (( then there's my S&W Mountain Gun in .44 mag that's an awesome shooter)))

OK Maybe I haven't settled down yet

Yes and no. My 870 is what I have owned the longest. I do not have a clue how many times I have shot it. It's well used. It will never leave.

My handgun is my 1911. It's getting more and more expensive to shoot and I could easily find a higher capacity handgun in a smaller frame if I'd switch calibers, but I absolutely love it.
