with buckshot? it's only 3-4" wide, at 5 yds, with the buffered, plated 00 buck loads, from a riot barrel, guys. That means that it's 20-25" wide at 25 yds, which is much too wide to trust a blast to stop a man. simple geometry proves this.

A 20" circle has a radius of 10", square is 100, x pi, 3.14 means 314 square inches. the 10" circle of the man's vitals has 78 square inches. Divide 314 by 9 pellets, you get 2-3 hits in the vitals. if the pattern is centered on the chest, which aint likely, and if he's facing you and fully exposed, which also aint likely. Each 00 pellet is slowed down to where it's hitting like a 380 ball rd, which aint much.

If your pattern is 25" wide, there's 460 square inches in it. divide by 9 pellets, and you get over 50 square inches per pellet. So maybe only 1 pellet in the vitals. hardly the sort of "over-weaning power" that people 'think" they are holding with a riot gun and buckshot. Such a pattern is so full of head sized holes that a cover user can be missed, even tho you "centered" a blast on his head, just as he exposed himself, at a mere 20 yds. 20 yd head hits are easy snapshots with a .22 rifle, guys.

If you've got a Vang barrel and it's 3" pattern at 10 yds, guess how wide that pattern is at 5 yds, in your home? 1.5" or a bit less. Not exactly a lot of help at hitting, eh?
