My wife daughter and I just got back from a gun show. There were lots of shiney guns and knives and supriseingly a lot of interesting books. As my wife and I discussed the wares at the show she commented on how cheerful it was with a lot of guys in Hawaiin shirts. Come to think of it she is right. There did seem to be a more than average share of aloha attire in that room (I am among the "guilty"). Does anyone suppose that being well armed and free and happy go together?

Maybe. I know that when the kids were smaller I wore these because it made it easier for them to find me.

+1 GunTech...from my reading at THR, i have begun to associate hawaiian shirts with concealed carry. and a gun show would naturally bring the CCW crowd out in force.

personally, i just can't bring myself to go that direction. a sleeve-rolled, untucked-but-buttoned western shirt suits my style much better than hawaiian, and the tail hangs even lower for better concealment.

Well, it's better than mossy oak.

Now my feelings are hurt...

Venturino has written of his love for Hawaiian shirts in AH recently, and they're talking of putting out a line of AH Hawaiian shirts.

Yes

I think your statement concerning being well armed and free = happy answers your question. Armed people are polite - polite people are happy. With happy people style is not the ultimate objective.

Before I got into guns when I saw a Hawaiian shirt all I thought was ugly shirt. Now I think I look pretty good in island wear.

In hot weather, generously cut Hawaian shirts make concealed carry easier.

I find this against the rules of most gun shows, loaded and carrying concealed is not something they like in that location is it?

I am a California guy and most gun shows I go to are there. Have gone to ones in Reno and as I remember it is not liked or tolerated either?

I never carry concealed at them. Even though I can.

As a young, skinny longhair living in a hot, humid climate, Hawaiian shirts are the best way for me to conceal a handgun without screaming to everyone within viewing distance "I HAVE A PISTOL IN MY TROUSERS!" the way those photographer's vests do.

That being said, it makes sense that people in gun shows would wear them, not necessarily because they are carrying, but because that's what they're used to wearing. All the same, though, that is kind of funny.

I just wore mine last night to go out. It hides my P9 very well, Thank You, and I thought I looked rather good in it.
Today on my way home I was wearing a T-Shirt and forgot a cover shirt so when I went into the grocery store I had to untuck my Tee and wear it over my P9. It printed fairly distinctly.

I'm burning mine.

I tried burning mine too, but they must be either made of Nomex or some sort of supernatural phenomenon is keeping it from destruction.:)

With that said, Hawaiin shirts are here to stay.

Works for me, cut for comfort, classic designs, each one distinctive. Where I work, Thursday is Tropical Shirt Thursday (just gearing up for the weekend).

Hawaiian shirts are:
1) Cheap
2) Comfortable
3) Decent looking (not stylish, not great, but not as bad as a T-shirt)
4) Fantastic for concealment

What's not to like about them?
