Can anyone help me date a Smith and Wesson Model 15-2 that I just purchased the serial is K517... I have not been able to shoot it yet, does anyone know how this model shoots.

Your M15-2 was made in 1963. It is also known as the Combat Masterpiece. It's a great shooter as it's just a short barrel M14 (the Target Masterpiece) which was S&W great target revolver. I'm quite sure you will like it.

I have a M14 in 6" amd there is a M15 in 6" as well, what is the different between these two ?

The difference between the model 14 & 15 was mainly in the sights. The 14 had a partridge front sight, the 15 a ramp or quickdraw sight.

The model 14 was discontinued between 1982 & 1991, the model 15 was offered with the six inch barrel in 1986, effectively replacing the model 14 at the time.

Info from Standard catalogue of S&W 2nd edition.
