Help finding a youth .22 or .17 for a lefty

That would be big news, considering that lots of folks are searching for the LAST of the LH 452's and having a hard time finding them. IF they were still makeing them, how come no one has them in stock and no one on Rim Fire Central knows about it?? At least i haven't seen it there...

As far as I've noticed, the regulars on the CZ/BRNO forum at RFC know the situation. A couple of them have spoken with CZ-USA management and reported back on the forum. CZ-USA confirmed that the 452 LH guns are still in production, as well as the Trainer, Scout, and Ultra Lux, and the same is indicated on the CZ-USA web site: http://www.cz-usa.com/products/by-category/rifles/

Being in production (not discontinued) and being in strong supply are two different things. Left Hand guns have indeed been trickling in slowly. I know of about 4 other people on RFC in addition to myself who have picked up a new '13 proofed LH American in the past 3 months or so (and of course there are tons of sales that aren't reported on that little RFC forum). While the LH guns are scarce (as they've usually been even in years past) there are plenty of '13-proofed 452 Ultra Luxes and Trainers available right now with some dealers listing significant quantities on hand. I'm looking for a 452 Lux LH, but beginning to wonder if they are coming. Reportedly the big CZ military contract has put a dent in CZ consumer production.

I've been down that road all my life. When I started competitive shooting it was with a right hand bolt gun, and let me tell you it's an adventure to be able to become competitive at NRA 50' indoor when the mechanics of the gun are all wrong for it. Therefore when I was able to start buying my own guns I kept my wallet in my pocket unless the bolt was on the correct side for me. And what's more, I refuse to either go back or adopt the idea that in some way using a right handed gun should be accepted by a lefty. To my mind those that advocate it literally don't know what they're talking about. There are enough LHB guns out there these days that there is absolutely no need to handicap yourself, unless you're a submissive masochist of course.

You may want to consider finding one of Thompson's Hot Shot camo's. It's not a bolt gun, but is sized for beginning shooters. Single shot, in camo, peep sights, very nice quality and a decent price. I believe they are now discontinued earlier this year but you should be able to find one I'd think. Savage has made a 93GL youth in the past & if it's not in current production, enough of them were made that again one of the on-line sites should be able to produce one. It's nice that Savage also made the gun with the youth stock & be able to transfer to the adult stock with no problems. It's a wood/blue gun, but you are going to have a hard time finding exactly what the young man wants. CZ does indeed continue to produce LHB 452's as there is no LHB 455 at this time. Again, wood/blue is what you're going to get. What you'll also get is a gun with outstanding workmanship that your son can pass down to his grandkids. Although I wouldn't doubt that at least one person has wanted theirs put in the coffin with them. Yes, they are that good. Bud's Guns and Whittakers are the two places most often mentioned on the CZ/BRNO forum at rimfire central as to where they can be found new.

Lastly, check the larger gunsmiths in your area, you never know just what might be lurking in a dark recess in the shop. Or, he might know of a cut-down he did years ago that might be had from the person he did it for.

Good luck, that first gun is a very important piece of a young man's life history.

Clearly, you DID NOT read my post. The Savage Rascal needs no cutting. It is appropriately sized to a six year old. That you can't be bothered to spray it with a bit of Krylon is another matter.

Good info, thanks... I'd have more than one myself, BUT i just can't get past the safety working backwards...

SO for now, i'm shooting a LH Anschutz and for a "walk around" accurate 22, a LH Remington 541-S.

Well, I'm having a hard time feeling too sorry for you with both the Anschutz and the 541-S in LH! ;)

Well, i was worried about "that", and that's why i didn't mention the LH 540XR, LH Browning T-bolt, LH NULA and a few others... :D

DM an' my keyboard aint got no tilde, sorry;

I've got a lefty Browning T-bolt also. It's the Target/Varmint in .22mag. The best accuracy is with the Hornady 30 gr V-Max ammo & it's nuthin' to write home about. What kinda performance are you getting?

So essentially any camo gun would do, rifle, or an utterly inappropriate shotgun whose sole effect will be to put him off shooting for years. "I couldn't find a 22 cal rifle in the image that my six year old dictated that required absolutely no effort on my part, so I bought him a shotgun that is too big and too powerful for him to handle. " Far better, I'm sure.

Great, several more minutes of my life that I will never get back. You are most welcome.

Fella's;

You know, this is the High Road & all that, but I kinda gotta agree with RPRNY.

How's that? He started shooting some single-shot .410 and 20 gauge guns last spring, and loved it. He's not recoil sensitive. I couldn't find the .22 or .17 I wanted to get him, so I went in a different direction.

Agree all ya' want, but I'll say it again - I didn't want his first gun to be spray painted. Guess I'm a gun snob......

Shotgun ≠Rifle

.22 or .17 ≠ 20 gauge

Righty ≠ Lefty

Camouflage = camouflage

Well, one out of four...

All right, enough!

The kid wanted something camo and he got ... something camo. What kids want doesn't have to always make sense to us.

(I will only add, make sure as you're training him to shoot you check what EYE is dominant. That's far more important than what hand. Set him up with long guns which he can operate from the side of his dominant EYE. He'll thank you for that all his life.)
